Maybe not where you live. Where I live they are here and in a big way....and the sooner they are here 100% the better.
That's right, you DON'T live here. I don't mind electric cars (I drove a hydrogen car and liked it) but there are too many compromises to make them practical. Not enough charging stations. England is NOT the United States. You say you can get 300 miles with a half hour or less charge. In South Dakota? I'd like to put you in Northern Idaho and see how long it takes you to drive to Miami.
Maybe eventually, it may happen. But not in the near (10+ years) future.
Besides, you Brits need to work on getting better dentists...
It is amazing how so many posters say EV vehicles are taking over the auto business when they are only 1.3% of auto sales, and over half are sold in the mild weather areas of California. Throw in cold weather snow and ice, some mountains which combined and you do not have the range to get to charging station in the next city large enough to warrant having one. Who would want to have to spend the night before going home to charge batteries in some town of 15 people on a slow charge, sleeping in the car as there are no motels in town.
In addition a lot of the nation does not have enough electric capacity to start charging a bunch of EVs. As it is now they have rolling electric shut downs when weather gets real hot, requiring air conditioning.

You still do not get it. Trends are that they will start to take over the market soon - it is called the tipping point. Have you looked at the vids and links I gave? I doubt it.
In California, NY, etc, there are plenty of chargers. They have not made it to the boonies yet. But electricity is everywhere. You can fit your own charger at home and charge up while asleep.

I just read up on the Tesla Model 3. It will not be for the average person. At about $59,000 fully optioned out.
Tesla are not the only EV maker. Jaguar, BMW, Nissan, M Benz soon, GM, etc. The price is dropping and fast. The price of Lith-Ion batteries have dropped ~75% in 6 years.
I do not want to be crammed back into a sedan. I will drive my SUV before I go back to an uncomfortable small sedan.
Try this then:
