Friend of mine plays hockey in the KHL and told me this past season they played a Chinese team in a nice big city in China (I forget the name) said the city only allowed electric cars. Was weird as you get used to cars/trucks making noise in every city, was a soft buzzing sound at most. Too quiet compared to everything he’s been used to. China’s already started it.
China's electric car market is growing twice as fast as the US. Here's why China
China Could Be The World's First All Electric Vehicle Ecosystem - Forbes "That's where China is really leading the way. It has pioneered the mass development of public charging piles, with 214,000 already in place at the end of 2017. These are places where anyone can charge up their cars, and are in addition to the 232,000 private charging piles installed Chinese electric car owners' own homes." https://webcache.googleusercontent.c...k&client=opera
The Chinese have 436,000 EV charging points and growing, while the USA has 114,474 filling stations (gas stations) and shrinking. "The USA had 114,474 filling stations (gas stations) in 2012, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, down from 118,756 in 2007 and 121,446 in 2002."
Soon at a charging station near you!!
It is fantastic what the Chinese are doing. We will all follow. Soon we will all be driving EVs, the sooner the better.
The subsidized cost here to install a two unit recharging station was $15K, that's on top of the cost to develop the parking spaces which ran $16K for each space, so around $23K/charging space.
Of course, that doesn't really reflect the true cost since, to sweeten the deal, the company threw in a free lease for an EV Ford Fusion for the Town to use for 5 years.
The company has heavy subsidies from both the State and federal governments so who knows what the true cost is.

We don’t live in China bro. Good news is that will free up more oil for us to use. Those SUVs and trucks we love so much do get thirsty.
Uber. Yeah. We don't even have a cab company here in suburban DC. The intra-County bus system only operates for 8 or 10 hours a day Monday through Friday.
Its unofficial motto is You Can't Get There From Here.
But China make most of your products...and soon a lot of your EVs. This so called 3rd world country is stripping the USA in advanced technology and implementation. You will be driving an EV sooner than you think. The trends are all there.
Most people in the US aren’t going to sell their car so they can use a taxi. That’s ridiculous.
Not most but a lot would. The obligatory 2nd car in the US household may go, saving a lot of hassle and money. Why bother when a taxi can pull up to you exactly on the kerbside, all done by your Smart Phone. Where I am 90% of the Ubers are hybrids, soon to be all EV. In London the traditional black cab had to be at least a hybrid from 1 Jan 2018.
