I think all cars should be manual, and if you can't drive one you shouldn't be on the road.
All cars should be a manual? No, thanks. A manual transmission in my '76 Cadillac Limousine would be silly, illogical and unnecessary

A fairer question might be, would the 2016 Accord manual get better mileage than a 2016 Accord automatic? Is the Accord still available with a manual?

I got to say that even though I am "pro" Manual, the gas mileage today won't be that much different as some have also mentioned. But it also depends on how you drive it. If not driven correctly, you could actually get worse mileage than an Auto. But driven correctly, you may do a little better, but not that much to notice a sizable difference.

I do not understand how or why certain people say driving a manual makes you more aware of...driving or paying attention to the road. Admittedly, I eat, text, drink, etc. all while shifting gears. If anything, my actions coupled with a manual transmission makes me a worse driver.

They are the same people who claim that Starbucks coffee is supreme.

You're clearly part of the problem, it's no surprise you don't understand. Gee you think doing everything except DRIVING while driving makes you worse?

Exactly. That is what I admitted. I have no shame about this. You can be just as bad at driving or inattentive with a manual as an automatic. There's just more to do from 0 - 30. Sometimes I even end up revving high to finish a text, then shift!

It also isn't as easy to push-start a modern fuel-injected vehicle, as it was the old carbureted vehicles. The electronic fuel injectors need power from the battery, and if it is too heavily discharged, it won't start by pushing.
Well thank you for that info. Wasn't aware. However, I had a 1973 fuel-injected Volkswagon pop-top Westfalia bus that I did start by popping the clutch once. But as you said, perhaps the battery wasn't too drained.

I've driven manual about 20 years now. My 3rd manual car, Mk. II VW Jetta was the most fun to drive car I've ever had. I have a Mk. III now and it's not as fun, I think because the car is heavier. That little Mk. II felt like it was a part of me. I'd zip around town, up, down, speedin' all over. Hugging them curves. And with snow tires on, look out Grandma! I was fearless in snow with that thing.

dpm1, for an American tourist the shift stick will only be on the "wrong side" of the car when traveling to a country where they drive on the left hand side of the road, e.g. the UK :-)
