Im a genus. 540 hp vs. 400-425 hp.. do your homework.
And I know people who have driven new camaro SS's and they said the standard issue Corvette (430 hp) is faster then the camaro
I just said back on page 2 that Chevrolet was going to put out the LS7 Camaro making 550hp+. I bet ya it'll be cheaper than a Shelby GT500 Mustang. Don't talk the GT500 up too much, the Vette are proven to run all over it, and at a lower price.
the 550 hp Camaro will never happen. Care to lay a wager on it?? besides all you would have to do it to have shelby breathe on a GT500 and 725 hp is yours.. Called a super snake. Bye bye ZL1
btw- Just saw a dyno session with a new SS Camaro and it was like 360 rwhp. Not bad but the car is very heavy. And ugly.. Very ugly

For the money and fun factor, a Mustang GT is my recommendation. I'd rethink the premium choice (mine is the deluxe version (cloth seats, it's a convertible and leather in Maryland temperatures gets way too hot for real use in the summer). It's strictly my fun car for sunny day driving. The 300 HP is more than adequate for my driving ability and has great sound and handling. The new Camaro looks interesting but I'm a cost/benefit freak and wouldn't want to pay the premium for a high demand car, not to mention that I never buy first year vehicles. It's odd but in the middle of a huge recession, this is a great time for American muscle cars. I'm 59 and grew up with muscle cars back in the 60's. What is available today is (IMHO) way superior to what we had in the 60's. Good luck on your search.
If you want a great bang for the buck sports car, check out the Mazda Miata. I've owned 5 of them. They are superb cars for purely nice weather driving. They are dangerous in wet weather and forget about snow/ice conditions, they will kill you. The Toyota MR2 (no longer in production) is also a great choice. The MR2's cornering capability is awesome. I don't have much experience with the higher end stuff except Corvettes, which are beyond my driving ability. Vettes are great to tool around in but you'd better be a really skilled driver if you put the hammer down. JMO.
bingo! Thats what I have too. 07 Convertible GT 5 speed. I too lived thru the 60's musclecar era and nothing I owned back then could hold a candle to the mustang..

frankgn87: Yep, times have changed. There are kids in my neighborhood with super-charged Hondas or Subaru WRX STI's that would blow off my old '62 Vette. The kids today don't have the same culture in building their ride. They just go for what is available and payable by check. I use to rebuild 283/327 GM motors as a hobby when I was a teenager, but today's kids don't get their hands greasy. I think we have lost something valuable in young people really appreciating a car.

You're not considering how much parts cost nowadays compared to backintheday. There's also the tricky ECUs and strict emissions in most states.
In January I lost my baby(G37 Infiniti with headers, hiflo cats, true dual exhaust, intake plenum, twin turbo, chilled air intake.) A ditsy college chic hit from behind at 40mph it shoved my car up under a chevy truck. 26k in damage and a few months of physical therapy.
So I am looking at a larger sports car as a replacement.
that's a nice car. looks pretty expensive as well. if you can still afford the Infinity, then you can afford a Mustang GT500 and can almost afford a Corvette.
