I saw where the lava from fissure 8 was entering the ocean at Kapoho Bay. I'm trying to remember that location...is that the bay with a black sand beach that permits nude bathing?

I stayed in that area couple of nights and just curious. Apparently no end in sight to the destruction.

Kapoho was where there were lots of tide pools and excellent reefs and snorkeling. No real beach, but lots of ocean activity with looking at marine life via snorkeling and wading.

Now it is no longer a bay, it is a delta of lava going a half mile or more out into the ocean. And the lava isn't finished yet, no telling where it will go next.

You were at Kehena beach. It's still there. This eruption is not in that area.

Fissure 8 (aka P'uu Uh Oh), is still flowing unabated. I don't think it will be too long until it breaks out. My gut feeling is that this is going to an event measured in years, if not decades.

It's truly heartbreaking to see people lose all there stuff, but OTOH if you buy or build a home on an active volcano, what can you expect? Maybe playing BJ and counting cards in reverse is better odds

I bought my house in Hawai'I and moved here during the 2014 Puna flow.Shortly afterwards, 50 acres of property I own in Northern California was burned up in the Lowell Hill forest fire.
So for me, I like Hawai'is' odds better than California's.

Sounds like you're in Naalehu, a pretty safe zone 6? Is that a fair comparison to Pahoa Zone 1??
