This is highly humorous, but my suggestion would definitely make people serious about other forms of transpiration. Lol

Not a shocker since C-USA is HQd in Irving but still a significant loss. They need to get this project going so the city can start adding events rather than hanging on to current ones by its fingernails.

This type of thing may end up being a zero sum game. Hoover is having to pull out all the stops to keep the SEC baseball tournament from leaving as well. Unfortunately, all stadiums have shelf lives and become out-dated quickly.

I think Hoover had a better chance of keeping that than Birmingham had of keeping C-USA. For one thing the SEC is HQ'd in Birmingham. 2ndly, the other venues that are in competition with Hoover don't have much room for RV's because they are typically urban style semi-pro venues. The college crowd is a bit different than the AA/AAA game goer.

Basketball tourneys like that tend to move around every few years anyway, so it was good while we had it but it probably was going to go away at some point any way.

There's no way this will be a zero sum game, not a chance at all, because Birmingham has been edged out of certain shows and conventions because of the BJCC's size and amenities and hotel space, all of which have increased dramatically over the past few years and is still growing.

As long as you have the money to pour into the facilities to keep them updated, sure it may not be a zero sum game. Not many cities not named Atlanta or Houston have that kind of coin.

Legion Field anyone? I certainly hope the fact that it's downtown will help, and that the location will stay viable, unlike the others. Buildings age, unfortunately.

The BJCC is 40 years old, it is time to update it, the last update was only 8 years ago but it didn't do much to expand its capabilities - they just improved the acoustic properties of the arena and modified the rigging for a Miley Cyrus concert. Doesn't mean they have to get in an arms race with Atlanta and build a 1.6B stadium next to a 25 year old facility that is still viable.

So like I said before, we're at A looking at building an L, not trying to jump straight to Z-Omega9000

Although laser beams would be kind of cool.

Well...I hope they leave something in the budget for a little bit of vanity. If not laser beams...maybe give Vulcan a companion like a holographic Maia or Aphrodite twerking next to an anvil on the side of it.

....ummm okay lasers would probably be better.
