Turned out to be a great read. Lets you know the limitations of hurricane forecasting back in 1900, compared to today. The early days of the U.S. Weather Bureau, and the competency and expertise of the Cuban hurricane forecasters compared to our forecasts back then.

Well, I tried to take on "Barkskins" by Annie Proulx, she wrote "The Shipping News" and "Brokeback Mountain", but gave up after 2 chapters, it was a super hard read and could not imagine going through with it to the end at 713 pages! Anybody else try to take this one on?

Moved on to "The Address" by Fiona Davis https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...40-the-address

This ended up being a 3.5 star read for me.

Gosh, I loved The Shipping News. How disappointing.

I am currently toggling between Story of My Life by Moshe Dayan and The Rastafarians by Leonard S. Barrett Sr. (link). I bought The Rastafarians on my 1991 honeymoon, from the same bookstore that sold me a unique item, a tape by Alpha Blondy, that recorded a reggae song in Hebrew. The book sat on my shelf or in tennis bags for almost 30 years. It is absolutely fascinating. The doctrine is so foreign to me and there is so much new material that I feel the need to break if up as I am reading it. Thus I switch back and forth to the Dayan book. I am much more familiar with the material. I am likely to give both books a "four" or "five" out of "five" so I like them both very much.

Just finished Plain Truth by Jodie Picoult and liked it. 4 out of 5 stars.

I think I read Plain Truth years ago and remember liking it. Actually I think that's the only Jodi Picoult book I have read.
I read The Address last year for a book club and I really enjoyed it. ( I gave it 4 stars).

Currently not reading anything. Taking a week's break.

I just started Who Will Run the Frog Hospital by Lorrie Moore. I know that I heard about it on this forum, but don't remember who recommended it (please raise your hand if it was you!). It's a skinny little book so shouldn't be taking me this long, but I'm in the middle of so many life distractions right now. More later!
