The story of wolf repopulation in eastern Washington state. And how wolf conservation is viewed (differently) by urban Liberals vs. Conservative ranchers, etc.
The author spent time in the field where the wolves are now roaming..
I just put that on my Want to Read list.

For lack of finding better, have been working through Harlan Coben.
Not my favorite genre but seldom disappoints

When you finish it, let me know what you thought. It's not a long read, about 200 pages..
I just started a book on a specific aspect of Mark Twain's life I'm gonna post soon..

Thanks. Another book, The The Rise of the New Puritans: Fighting Back Against Progressives' War on Fun by Noah Rothman just jumped ahead of The Return of Wolves: An Iconic Predator’s Struggle to Survive in the American West by Eli Francovich because it came up on my reserve list. I will read it soon.

Mark Twain and the South (Arthur Petit. 1974)

An accounting of Twain's conflicted relationship with his native South (& slavery). And as a Border Southerner, how his self-image waxed & waned.

Just finished "Saving Sophie" by Ronald Balson. Since I loved his "Once We Were Brothers", I was really looking forward to this one. However, it was a disappointment and I give it 3 stars at best. The plot was engaging but his handling of narrative was stilted and there was just too much unnecessary filler -- an uneven read. The Amazon synopsis:

Jack Sommers was just an ordinary accountant from Chicago-that is, until his wife passed away, his young daughter was kidnapped, and he became the main suspect in an $88 million dollar embezzlement case. Now Jack is on the run, hoping to avoid the feds long enough to rescue his daughter, Sophie, from her maternal grandfather, a suspected terrorist in Palestine. With the help of investigative team Liam and Catherine, and a new CIA operative, a secret mission is launched to not only rescue Sophie but also to thwart a major terrorist attack in Hebron.

Storm of Steel (Ernst Jünger)

A 1920 first hand recollection of WWI. Written by a German veteran.. has a definite All Quiet on the Western Front vibe. Some interesting, sobering insights.
