The MBTA struggles with the effects of deferred maintenance and bad luck.

I was just thinking about bad the MBTA was...

...until I was driving home from work last week and the train (At Grade Crossing) got stuck and went full on park mode blocking four major intersections and caused 1+ hour of standstill delay before police came and rerouted everyone. My 10 minute, 3.4 mile commute turned into a 2.5 hour 16 mile detour

gotta love central jersey

Delayed...again

https://www.railwayage.com/passenger...-delays-mount/

"According to the CommonWealth report, CRRC, which was originally expected to deliver all 152 Orange Line cars by January 2022 and all 252 Red Line cars by September 2023, projects it will deliver the last batch of Orange Line cars to the T in summer 2023 and the final Red Line cars in summer 2025. That would represent 17 months past the contract’s due date for the Orange Line and 21 months late for the Red Line, said MBTA Deputy General Manager Jeff Gonneville. Two years ago, according to the report, the MBTA announced the target completion dates were delayed until April 2023 for the Orange Line and September 2024 for the Red Line."

This is starting to remind me of when I was a kid and used to hear rumors of new video games and movies coming out and then they never did. This is sad. We're talking nearly 1.5 to 2 year delay. I'm starting to picture the old "Dings Dongs and Dents" department of Building 19

It's starting to look more and more like Duke Nukem Forever...

I've taken the Orange Line 3 times since it reopened. I must say I'm impressed with the new cars.

They're great, but the delivery delays are a bummer. The next batch (and final, I believe) is delayed until next summer. The T has said we could see some of the old cars back in service when they increase the frequencies in December. So it looks like we haven't seen the last of the old rust buckets yet.

They sure are a whole lot better than the old rust buckets, problem is Boston is flushing about 60 cars worth down the toilet each year on carting kids all over town to equally sh*tty schools in the name of centered equitable equity. We could have replaced every single rusty museum relic within just a few years if we got rid of busing and used the savings to upgrade the T rolling stock.

That is frustrating. People should just go to the school nearest them in their neighborhood. If they prefer to go to another one their parents can drive them or figure out a way to get there themselves. That's how it works for most people.
