But -- at least here in SF -- many of those non-profits subsist on government grants.

I have heard that you can look at California and see the rest of the USA. Will people be leaving the USA next? Think about this when you have an opportunity to vote for a Tea Party candidate; do so. You could turn things around. Regular Democrats and Republicans are not going to change anything.

Yes, because nothing says "total break with the past" like a Republican Astroturf group funded by billionaires.

Does Soros fund the Republicans? Oh wait, my bad. He funds the Democrats. That's ENTIRELY different He just supports old fashioned classical Democrats. It's not like he's behind the far left

What will it take to get both sides to see they do the same crap?

The difficult problems are analogous to a medical condition that requires medication with a lot of side effects. I don't think the homeless are much of a factor in the budget though. I think it's a red herring. Non-profits, especially religious organizations, do more to help the homeless than any government does. Maybe some localities offer their own assistance, but non-profits and Churches do the bulk of the aid. San Francisco in particular offers more than most. One of the types of assistance San Francisco offers is a bus ticket home. They offer it for both homeless and low income people. A Bus Ticket Home
good that's mainly why I didn't want to respond right away. We won't solve the homeless problem in this country because there's no money to be made. It's the only thing we haven't declared war on.

This has to be to single most idiotic post I personally have ever seen in my four years posting on City-Data.

Are you tacitly acknowledging that the TP is merely a faction of the same old Republican Party?

To the same extent that the far left is really just a faction of the Democrats. There is a little difference though. There is a libertarian movement gaining steam in this country. It has two components; social and political. Some embrace one and some embrace both. The libertarian movement fascinates me because it seems to attract Democrats and Republicans in roughly equal amounts, especially amongst younger voters. The Tea Party always shared some common ground with libertarians, but it looks like it is becoming more and more libertarian. For now it is a sect of the same old Republican Party but I think they'd be perfectly happy if they could split off without handing the Democrats everything.

I frequently express my disdain for both the far left and far right, but I actually think they both have good points and good arguments. What I loathe is their style and tactics, especially their over-the-top rhetoric and demonization of the opposition. Oh, can't leave out the hypocrisy. It floors me at times. It floors me to see politicians and their fanboys so often accuse the other side of doing exactly what they do. They don't even seem to care anymore if they can be seen on YouTube doing exactly what they are complaining about.

Whereas I see Tea Party candidates becoming more and more dedicated to promoting conservative Republican/Christian positions on certain social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage.

I'm not saying all Tea Partiers do that, but there is a significant subset of them that do. Which I suppose means the TP is ideologically diverse, but also calls into question its ability to coalesce around its supposed common purpose, i.e. lowering the debt.

This threads premise is whacked. By the OP's own link it says that from 4/1/2010 the state has increased in population by 951,000 people. So, almost a million more people, and you're worried people are moving away? I spent my life in the construction industry in the bay area. I've worked with those immigrants with their low paying 6 figure jobs.
