WELCOME TO SOLAR ROADWAYS®

Solar Roadways® (SR) is a modular system of specially engineered solar panels that can be walked and driven upon. Our panels contain LED lights to create lines and signage without paint. They contain heating elements to prevent snow and ice accumulation. The panels have microprocessors, which makes them intelligent. This allows the panels to communicate with each other, a central control station, and vehicles. Many people are surprised to learn that our panels are made of glass… but not ordinary glass. SR panels are made of specifically formulated tempered glass, which can support the weight of semi-trucks. The glass has a tractioned surface which is equivalent to asphalt. You can read more technical information in the Specifics page. We’re still in an early phase of our company’s development. Eventually our panels will be available for highways, but first will come non-critical applications such as driveways and parking lots. We are readying to install the first projects now.

. Well, yeah ... that would spell trouble ... IF it were the state that was doing the development.

But it’s not. It’s private investment technology developing the solutions and bringing to market.

Now, if you want to cringe at the specter of the state buying and implementing the product and installation contracts, be my guest.

Who do you think would be overseeing the installation of solar panels on PUBLIC roads?

Btw: theoretically, if all roads became photovoltaic, I believe the estimate is that they would produce something like 3.5x the world’s consumption of energy at this time. Of course theory isn’t practice .... but when there’s gold in them thar hills, people start to dig ... passionately.

Give it a minute ... and a bunch of failures ... called ‘learning curve’.

I know lol

We were promised a sound wall along the freeway near me for 10 years They started building it (maybe a 5-mile stretch) two years ago and it's still nowhere near complete. The rebar has been planted in the footers and poking out for almost a year.

And the parts that were installed are already covered in graffiti. So they have to clean that up too. Just a friggin mess.

Ah, well I do know what I read from credible sources. How about you?

According to the Energy Information Administration, the United States (all 50) used 3,741 Billion Kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2009 (EIA Electricity Overview, 1949-2009). It's easy to see that Solar Roadways could produce over three times the electricity we currently use in the United States!

Numbers – Solar Roadways

Here’s the math on that:

The issue I addressed was whether the technology / ability can exist. The answer is: yes.

Will implementation be likely clumsy at times? One would guess so, since that’s the nature of most all public human endeavor at large scale. And yet, those public roads DO exist and function well enough to support the nation’s largest population and greatest amount of manufacturing and the world’s 5th largest economy ...

So, there’s that.

Why would they have to be built in three months ... chocolate factory or elsewhere?

Here’s a question for you: how long did it take to build the U.S. interstate highway system? Has it been marked by fraud, graft, inefficiencies, incompetence at times by contractors and public officials alike? Hmmm ... appears to have been built - and still building - since the 50s in spite of all those faux-pas.

And where would we be without it now? In spite of all, is it paying its way by serving industry and the public?

Huh.
