I can see myself doing this trip every summer for the next decade to get away from FL during the hottest part of the year.
You're describing 'reverse snow birding' the most practical of approaches.
This allows you thousands more destination choices vs the snow birds who travel south into FL.

That's what we've done for the last few years......beat it out of Florida for the four hottest months...and run for the NC mountains.

That's still the south. Is it really cool there?

It's summertime. It's not going to be 'cool' until you get well into Canada.
Then you can also explore relative humidity levels along the way.

Cooler or cooler enough than Florida? That's a personal question.

Above 3500' it's a bit cooler, but not much during the day. Nighttime, mucho better-er.

I was just there for the whole month of June (Boone, NC) and it was very nice.....long sleeve weather most of the time.

Boone should be closer to 3500'. Only a couple places in NC @ 5000'+ (Beech Mtn)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boone,_North_Carolina

NC would probably be home to the coldest mtn location in the 'south' of USA.

Several friends have moved to Northern GA mtns. Too hot for me.

There are RVers/van dwellers who "follow the 70s" - 70-degree weather, that is.

There's even a map -

Anyone ever "fail" at it???
What are the consequences of failing? Call AAA. Or go to the next campsite and ask for advice. And if they can't/won't help you, go on to the next one.

I just don't think that 'failing' at any of these things is an option. You aren't failing, you're just making mistakes while you're learning. It's not a competition. No one's judging you.

None of the things you mentioned are rocket science. If you learn something and need to remember it, find a way to document that works for you. Keep a binder of steps for setting up, or towing, or emptying the loo. Or tape the instructions in the appropriate place. You don't have to have all of it memorized, do you?

If you really want to enjoy the RV life...you have to be able to go with the flow.

If it isn't for you, that's okay. But don't let fear of no knowing how to do things yet stop you from trying.
