There has been a stray cat that took up at my house that is SO friendly. Our neighborhood has been over run with stray cats for awhile now and I have been trying to get help to get them fixed. Seems like I am being ignored by the orginazations I am asking for help.

I found these a few days ago and they are only weeks away from being totally feral so I have been getting them each day and getting them use to humans. However, I go back to work next Wednesday and will be gone for 4 weeks. I can't find anyone who is willing to take them to keep them socialized. Everybody falls in love with the orange one but nobody will take him, he is the friendliest of the bunch and so darn cute!

I already have my 4 in my small house and can not bring the Mom & Babies inside. I have 3 on medication, one that is handicapped and already have wall to wall litter boxes and feeding stations.

I get so mad at people who do not S/N their pets and then dump them when the newness wear off leaving somebody else to deal with the problem they created. I care so I am the one who has to deal with the problem.

We have a shelter here but it is a kill shelter and I know if I take them there, they will all be put to sleep before I can get back home. I have talked to my vet and asked him if he knew anybody that would take them until I get back and his answer was just as I expected..."No!"...

I am just venting but please pass the word to everyone you know with a pet to S/N!

Damnit, if I didn't live 100s of miles away I'd take one of those! Can you put an ad in the local paper or post fliers around the neighbourhood? Surely someone's kids would help out with just socialising them and putting out food?

Or what about a boarding kennel? I suppose they might ask for vaccination certificates but if you explain the situation to them . . . ?

Is there a TNR (Trap, Neuter, and Release) in your area? It isn't the best solution, but... it would enable you to get them fixed and release them back into the big bad world while not being able to procreate.

I sooooo wish I lived close to you. I would help you out in a heart beat! That is SO kind of you to be doing what you are doing for the kitties. Thanks for caring.

Where do you live? Our vet takes in cats & kittens and adopts them out from her office. We're in Wilmington,North Carolina. Actually,I don't see why your vet couldn't keep them just until you get back. Guess they don't care enough. Such a shame. Good bless you for caring and at least trying to help God's innocent. Wish I could be of help.

Is there a pet shop near you that will take them? Where I am we have a pet shop that takes whole litters and gives them away to people who buy their "kitten starter pack".

OMG they are too cute! I just took a sick baby stray in about 5 weeks ago...new love of my life. I wish you were closer and I help you! Oh, hang in there! You're doing a wonderful thing! I agree with you about all the little strays. My babies stay indoors and if they sneak out between my legs while I'm heading out the door, I freak out promptly take them back in worried a neighbors cat will attack one of them or worse. Just last night I darted outside after midnight cause I heard a terrible cat fight...one like I have never heard before. My neighbors probably think I'm crazy and have seen me in my pj's one too many times over the past month trying to come to the rescuse of a cat/kitten....but hey, those of us who really love animals, not just when they are cute are always there for animals. Hang in there and thank you for being so kind to those babies. They cant say thank you, but we can.

Yes, you have to have all their records before they will let you board them anywhere.. I checked into that for mine once.

Those are the ones that are not returning my phone calls and emails. We have accumulated 14 more kitten while waiting for one of them to respond. The mother of these, this is her second litter while waiting for someone to respond. Lovely web sights preaching S/N and they do not respond other than to say they are swamped and will get back to me.. I have even offered to trap and transport them myself to where ever they need to be taken... I get nothing back from them. I have a trap and have trapped before, even helped one organization transporting truck loads of them on spay day... I get nothing....

ALL animals kept there have to be tested and have their shots or they run the risk of making other animals sick. These are to young to get their shots yet. (only about 4 weeks old)

Pet stores like PetCo and PetSmart only take kittens from organizations that have been fully vetted. We have no Mom & Pop pet stores around here, only the big national chains.

I know I would help any of these organizations that called me for help but THIS is really making me rethink me being so willing anymore. I didn't help any of them thinking I would win brownie points and getting moved to the front of any line (not my nature anyway) but you think they could give me the courtesy of returning a email or phone call!

This seems to be a constant refrain about shelters and rescue--no rerurn call and hard to reach. Maybe they need more volunteers just for phone and pick-up duty. I don't know. But it is a darn shame for these kittens and for you.

Could you put up fliers requesting a foster home for a month for the lot of them--kittens and mom? Maybe pet stores and vets. Also talking to employees at groomers, pet stores, vets sometimes ferrets out animal lovers who might help. Call the local paper and say you have a human interest story and a rant for them. Better yet take in pictures and a blurb to the desk there and ask them to publish and plead for S/N and a foster home.

Does your paper have an online forum where you could post pics and a plea??

God bless you!
