I agree that jobs are needed, but how will this road fix that? Unfortunately the economic collapse killed Gastonia's plans to renovate & repurpose the Loray Mill. Giving the city grant money to do that would go further towards getting jobs in than this road will, & cost less, imo.
I can see interstate truckers taking it, but not individuals.
I very much doubt that truckers will take it (assuming that the road will accommodate commercial vehicles); tolls quickly add up, and there's little benefit over I-85.

Here's how I see it:
The road is narrow enough (one lane in each direction for certain segments) to be of little use, but it's presence will likely create development in areas that were rural. This might bring over-development to rural areas, on a road that is so narrow as to be easily overwhelmed.
For the above reasons the Garden Parkway doesn't make a great deal of sense.
This road is an absolute joke as is the Authority championing it.
Not a single normal tax paying Gaston County resident has ever backed it.
It is a pure creation of 2 corrupt politicians that happen to have acquired 1000s of acres of land adjacent to its route. This road would have been killed 3 years ago if not for being saved by one of those very politicians.
I'm afraid our "Road to Nowhere" will soon take the place of Alaska's "Bridge to Nowhere" as the greatest example of pork barrel politics ever.

Independent truckers will avoid it, as will individuals.
Some of that area is already residential & could be annexed by Gastonia now. If it isn't already residential, the builders are headed there. If the object were to develop rural areas this should be going through northern Gaston.

Growth is not always good. Today's society is a prime example of that.
Not only am I one of the few natives that post on this board, I also have a family member who is losing their home, and being paid chump change for the property. I also know a family who is losing their farm. A farm that not only has been in their family for generations but a farm that produces FOOD for themselves and the community.
This road will not produce jobs nor will it do a thing to ease the pain of those who have come face to face with hurt and
loss that this community has seen.
Nothing good will come of this but higher taxes due to the lack of use of this road.
Start the construction! I know a ton of construction skilled folks without a job. Didn't they say 2600 jobs will be produced over the 4 years of construction? Believe me I am very sorry about the people you know losing their homes as I know a couple myself. I also know of several folks that lost their home as a result of not being able to find a job.........
