I'll just use 85 whenever I need to travel through Gaston.
The Monroe Bypass is actually necessary because there's no alternative freeway through Union County and 74 is overloaded with traffic everyday for several hours.
It couldn't be more useless. For less money, they could have added a lane to I 85 from the Gaston/Mecklenburg line to the state line & had money left to refund part of the bypass projects that were defunded to finish 485.
2600 jobs? By whose account? Its going to be work going to the same people who build all the other roads around here. They may hire a few more people on for the project. And we all know it will take far longer than expected to build and cost far more to build it. I can't believe for even a minute that a toll road towards Bessemer City will do much to improve the local economy in Gaston County. If anything it will hurt things because of lost property tax revenue. But, we need a shiny new road because the politicians say so. Pfft.

LOL, I wouldn't drive the 3 or 4 miles to get on that toll road to go to Bessemer City. I don't take the free roads to go there.
If I could pick one project that would be the biggest help to Gaston County it would have nothing to do with roads. If they can get the Loray Mill rehabbed that will provide jobs & help with the way that the city looks. I've gotten used to it, but on 1st sight, it's a blight. Fix that & it will help to attract companies to Gastonia & that will spill over to the rest of the county.
Maybe burntice recently acquired a little land somewhere.
