Such a sad situation...

Yes. Its called the "Monroe Bypass Connector".

Many businesses will be displaced because of this.

This road will not produce jobs nor will it do a thing to ease the pain of those who have come face to face with hurt and
loss that this community has seen.

Nothing good will come of this but higher taxes due to the lack of use of this road.

That's terrible Chromekitty....I'm sorry to hear that.

It's not the type of growth you want.

Thank God we finally have a direct route to Bessemer City! That was sooooooo on the priority list of road improvement and development in the region! Your tax dollars at work! And how lovely we helped a couple of politicians line their pockets (and that is a fact, folks) by buying up land ahead of the approval of the project!

And how great folks will have temporary jobs paid for by tax dollars doing something totally unnecessary that helps create private wealth for a few. You gotta love living in Amerika, land of the taxed, home of the shovel-ready jobs.

Wow the Garden Parkway is one of the most unnecessary projects I've ever seen in NC. Literally parallels I-85 to create a "bypass" where one was not needed. I agree that they should have just widened I-85. It probably would have been cheaper too. Can't wait to see how few people actually use it once it's built. I'll just use 85 whenever I need to travel through Gaston.

The Monroe Bypass is actually necessary because there's no alternative freeway through Union County and 74 is overloaded with traffic everyday for several hours.

And when one ventures only a few more miles . . . I think many of us believe that finishing up 485 would have been a much better use of $$$ than this "bypass." I agree with you and others, tho, that widening 85 would have served the public good much better than this politically-motivated "bypass."

I couldn't have said it better, Ani.

They took the money from the Kings Mountain/Shelby double bypass & other Cleveland County projects to finish 485. Then they realized that that bypass was promised to Clearwater Paper, since it was scheduled at that time, so they dug up money from God knows where to start the Shelby end of it Most of it is still not refunded, though..
