It's not in Third Ward; it's in in the corner of Fourth Ward. First Ward is east of Tryon and north of Trade; Second Ward is east of Tryon and south of Trade; Third Ward is west of Tryon and south of Trade; and Fourth Ward is west of Tryon and north of Trade.
NCMF is in the very top of the blue area representing Fourth Ward.
Sorry, to tell you but anything "affordable" anywhere near there is going to be really bad and in the 'hood.
Your budget is going to handicap you a bit I'm afraid. The rental market in Charlotte is very hot and because of that rents have risen quite a bit in the last 2 years.
The closest apts in your price range in a decent area would be the old Martha Washington apts in the Elizabeth neighborhood.
They are not fancy. There are no amenities. They do not have air conditioning. BUT, you'd be right outside of uptown in a pretty desirable neighborhood where you could feel relatively safe.
NO AC??? Whew, that's rough.
That is a pretty small budget even for Charlotte. We had a 3 bedroom for 850 but that was all the way up in University.
Ok...so I'm obviously not from NC...why is it sectioned into "wards"? Are all four wards safe/ desirable areas?

The wards were originally political boundaries, drawn in the 1850s, made by the intersection of Trade & Tryon. The political boundaries didn't last, but the names did.
A friend lived at Tryon House until very recently - he LOVED it there. Yes, it can feel a little "sketchy" (as a friend described it), but some people don't need whitewashed, trim-green-lawn areas to feel at home. I think it's managed by TR Lawing.
OP, you might spend some time in 3rd Ward - taking precautions, as everyone should, anywhere! - to see how it feels for you. Different strokes for different folks, as they say. Or, posting on Craigslist to find a room nearby could work. Roommate situations can be tricky, but sometimes it works out very well.
Your budget will have to go up considerably. $750/month is a reasonable starting point. And, correct me if I'm wrong (which I know someone will), NC Music Factory is on the other side of 277, not the downtown side. At least the street you turn on to enter is.

Correct. Although it's technically included within the loop, it has no connectivity with the rest of Fourth Ward whatsoever. You have to cross over 277 on Graham and turn by the Crisis Assistance building to access it.

I always appreciate accurate info
I did not think it was part of 4th Ward, only near it, but didn't know for sure. Thanks!
