An Ingle's store in Gastonia has been in rumors and conversations. A store being realized would increase competition among food retailers with another supermarket participant.
An Ingles store in Gastonia would definitely do well. It's an excellent location, too.

A few years ago I ran into two of the priests from the Catholic church in Gastonia at the Kings Mountain Ingles. They had a full cart and were studying the barbecue sauce section. They asked me if I knew where a certain sauce was and I did not. I suggested that they check at customer service, and showed them where customer service is located. So off they went, after thanking me. Later, when I was ready to check out, I noticed the sauce that they wanted in a display of Asheville products. They were not the first or last people that I ran into from Gastonia. Usually the Gastonia people are looking for something and mention that they usually go to the Dallas store and were told at the Dallas store that the specific item that they wanted is at the Kings Mountain store.

I would guess that an Ingles store in Gastonia will strike terror in 2 different chains.

Yes, and I'm sure that they would do well, but it would take quite a while for them to get here, leaving a trail of stores behind them.

Food Lion is opening a store at 1620 Ashley Park in the Westerly Hills / Ashley Park neighborhoods of Charlotte in the Harveys that is shutting down. This is not one of the locations Food Lion purchased from Southeastern Grocers. Instead the Harvey's will shut down, and then Food Lion will sign a new lease and move in / build out the space. Keeps a much needed traditional supermarket in an area that would only have Walmart Super Center, Aldi, and Compare Foods once Harveys shut down.

I like Compare Foods. I wonder if they considered taking over one of the former Bi-Lo stores in Gastonia.

Food Lion is continuing to expand in former BI-LO and Harvey's locations operated by Southeastern Grocers. But sounds like in this case they just took over the lease rather than purchase the property itself.

Anybody interested in Wegmans news WSOC will have a special report on 5:00 Eyewitness News Thursday evening on Channel 9. Looks like they are visiting the Raleigh area stores. But not sure if there will be an update if they are planning to come to Charlotte.

All BI-LO stores have now closed and many have been converted to Food Lion. End of the BI-LO brand and Southeastern Grocers now retains Winn-Dixie in Florida and Alabama.
