My wife just got a flat near Southpark Mall. Any idea of a good place to get it fixed or buy a new one?

x2 on Costco. If you are a member there, and bought the tire there the fix would be free. If it is not fixable (hole in the sidewall) then a replacement tire would be free, included in their road hazard warranty. Otherwise, Discount Tire is where I would go.

Yes, I am so glad we have the road hazard warranty, DH ran over a screw driver last Nov and it punchured & broke off in the tire. We've used Costco for years.

I'm a big fan of Discount Tire which isn't near Southpark but there's plenty around. They have great prices on tires and will rotate and fix plats for free. I buy all my tires there. Even when I bought a new car they fixed my flat knowing that when I replaced my tires that came with the vehicle I would return to buy my new ones.

The last set of tires I bought were GoodYear TripleTreads. They aren't cheap tires but they really last. Got nearly 5 years on my last set and replaced those mainly b/c they were drying out. They still had tread! They're firm riding "H" series tires with good cornering ability, and can wick away copious water without hydroplaning.

Bought my last set at the nearest GoodYear on 521 just across the SC border. (Saves a few percent on sales tax).

Probably paid around $750 including insurance. $150 a year for good tires seems fair to me.

Drying out(aka dry rot) on a tire is normal isn't it? My tires have huge cracks in them and I was even nervous about taking it cross country before I came here so I took it to the place where I bought the tires from and the guy told me that it is normal for a tire to do that after a few years and to not be worried.

Tires dry out, because ground level ozone and heat from use gradually degades the sidewalls. It's kind of like how mud bakes in the sun and forms cracks. You don't want this to go on for "too" long!
