Not trying to argue with you, but... it really is all relative. After growing up and living in south Louisiana for almost 3 decades I NEVER find it too hot here in Charlotte. HONESTLY. 85 degrees here in NC is pleasant to me because the humidity here in NC is so much lower than in south Louisiana. You want unbearable, miserable summer heat?? Go to south Louisiana
Not "defending" where I live, just stating that some of us really don't think it it "too hot" here.
It was October 1997 when I left Ft. Meade, MD, for Biloxi, MS, in a wool coat. I just about suffocated stepping off of the plane. Charlotte really doesn't have anything on LA/MS-type humidity.
ua 85 or so is quite acceptable here...back home in NY it was hot but here I seem to find that to be the breaking point. The good part about an 85 high is you are in below 80 until noon at least..when its 90-95 you have till about 9 before the 80 degree bewitching temp sets in.

We were sitting out today at a concert and everyone was complaining about the heat and fanning themselves. I didn't even break a sweat and I did a lot of walking. If this is hot I'll take it. The evening cools off so beautiful also.
Well, that explains it! Everything is relative I guess. Coming from New England, I will never be able to say I will get used to the heat. I think its a role reversal, here you stay indoors with little to do in the summer months , up north you stay indoors with little to do in the winter months....toss up if you ask me.
