Wow. This Bridgeport stuff is silly. I was eating lunch at Freddie's on 31st and there were blacks. Outside of the CVS on 31st I watched a cop help a black guy push his car out of his spot and up to the tow truck.

Seriously, it isn't 1964.

I've noticed that a lot of people like to cling to their dated perceptions of Chicago. Some people left decades ago and think that nothing has changed.

... has much (of the nasty essence) of Bridgeport changed in the last few decades though really? I have serious doubts.
too much history there to be wiped out overnight, wouldn't you say?

"The last few decades" is hardly "overnight."

Sometimes? Ha! I think about it all of the time and I will do just that very soon. I am moving to the South where the women are as warm as the weather.

Chicago is a nice city with many beautiful women, don't get me wrong. But it is a business city. It is not a fun city like Vegas or a chill city like San Diego or LA. I love the warmth. You may love the cold. We all have our personal preferences. I don't know how people are in other cities but I know how they are in Chicago. And I don't particularly like them!

That didn't even happen in Bridgeport.

And one that doesn't negate the fact that hundreds of black people go shopping/drinking/dining in Bridgeport -- sometimes side by side with cops -- every day without incident.

So as to your challenge "send a black guy into Mayor Daley's neighborhood someday and watch how long it takes for him to get jumped or questioned by police," they send themselves in all the time. Evidently it takes a long time before they "get jumped or questioned by police" since they keep going back.
You are right, I was way too vague in my statement.

There is a big difference between coming in and spending your money and moving in or stopping at a park to shoot hoops etc...the 2000 census has bridgeport at >98% white.

I moved away 9 years ago but still have a number of friends\family in the area. I'm glad to hear it has improved a lot.

You are equating the treatment that people spending their money at stores are receiving vs. that of a kid that comes from one of the neighboring developments to play ball at one of the parks. I think that is where I was unclear and our opinions diverge.

only decades of time would definitely be considered "overnight" if you're aware of how deep bigotry has run there historically

I am one of those beautiful women thank you! Chicago isn't a total business city like a New York. But then again it does get boring here for a big city. We all recognize that there are zillions of places to eat and drink in Chicago. My problem with it is, so many places are too alike. it starts to look like the background to the Flintstones cartoon after a while and you wonder just how much difference there is. Most people love the weather here, until its winter and then the complaining happens. Another thing I've always hated about Chicago is the lack of restrooms.
