According to the scriptures there are three types of baptism. The baptisms of water, fire, and the holy spirit.

The baptisms of water and fire represent cleaning and purification.

By the baptism of water one experiences in conversion to the faith in this life and a cleansing away of the old nature and as a consecration. The baptism of water could also be understood as a typification of the judgment of God on the earth by means of water during the deluge of Noah, wherein God cleansed the world of wickedness.

The baptism of fire represents the judgment of fire which will come upon the world to judge the works of men in the fullness of times. It will likewise purify and sanctify the world once again, to the restoration of all things in Christ.

The baptism of the spirit itself is process of renewal that is the inner transformation accomplished in the other two "types" of Baptism.

What is important to note is that the fire and water baptisms are symbolic and represent the purifying and cleansing power of Gods Judgment.

It is not a literal observance of these rituals that is important so much as understanding the spiritual realities which they typify.

The significance is that of cleansing and purifying and sanctifying and consecrating all things to God in Christ.

Peace ...

Psalm 12:1-8 "The Pure Words of the Lord"
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Peace!

I'm glad someone else saw the 3 baptisms this way (water, spirit and fire). Seems clear to me from scripture, but traditional church doctrine doesn't teach this, regardless of denomination. I wrote a blog on this recently too.

Fire and Holy Spirit are the same. We see 3 instances in the NT where it was given to the Jews, then the Samaritans, then the Gentiles. After that it does not happen again, and it is not mentioned in the epistles.

We all receive the Spirit upon trusting Christ. There is no secondary baptism needed.

Baptism with water - not seeing the water baptism as applicable. Jesus said that was John's baptism. (Acts 1)

Baptism in the Holy Spirit - needed for salvation and relationship w/ Christ, comes as God recognizes one's faith in His Son.

Baptism with fire - has not occurred yet, comes at the judgment seat of Christ, all believers will go through this baptism.

Water baptism/outer court, Spirit/HG baptism/inner court, fire baptism/Holy of Holies.

Because of the second baptism if walked out to completion the 3rd baptism (the second death) will have none effect, because of submitting to the sanctification process the HG leads you through. It's only when you have not submitted to the 2nd baptism while you are alive, that the 3rd has any power over you, because it's purpose is to burn up the chaff works that weren't dealt with by the 2nd baptism in life. Peace

beautiful insite and I to believe it is not a choice but part of the process of when we have studied to show ourself approved to the point that we start to see the Father and Son and spirit as different beings ( instead of "GOD", HOLIness , ???? , higher power , or piece of pizza that gives you bad dreams.. )and are ready to start to have relationships with each on their terms not ours terms .
but Nice insight . yes I don't think it is our Choice really , but the Father or the Spirit's choice . we may choose to want it and to learn about it more and just to learn more about God in general.. but it is their choice when to give it and how fast or slow..
