Recently, a manuscript containing portions of the Gospel of Mark was discovered and dated by the world's leading paleographer to be from the first century. This is the first and only manuscript that has been discovered from that time, and is easily over 100 years older then our next oldest manuscript of Mark. It is highly likely that this manuscript dates to the time when eyewitnesses were still alive.
Right now the find is being subject to a peer reviewed process and won't be made available to the media until this research is completed. According to a scholar mentioned in the above article, "...if this Mark fragment is confirmed as from the first century, what a thrill it will be to have a manuscript that is dated within the lifetime of many of the eyewitnesses to Jesus’ resurrection!"
This can have a HUGE implication for not just Christians, but an unfortunate one for other spin-off cults Moderator cut: delete as they believe that scripture had been in error at some point down the line. If what we have now matches with the old manuscript from 1AD, it could be a huge deal....

That's exciting news. The more manuscripts that are found, the stronger the proof that our modern Bible is reliable. I hope this proves to in fact be from the 1st century just as the paleographer believes it to be. I also hope that the fragment is more than just a few words.

Why should this surprise you? The entire so called "new testament" is a "collection" of letters written by the Talmadim (apostles) during their ministries as well as letters written by the early followers during Messiah's walk here. Some chronicled much of Messiah's teachings and interactions with those around HIM. This is by NO means to be confused with the fact the church of Rome assembled and re translated all of said letters into a "book" and called it the "New Testament" to draw attention away from the fact that Messiah and the original followers ALL taught and followed the Torah as their guidline to a righteous life. It was all that existed as a teaching tool then anyway. To suggest otherwise is pure denial of all the facts of the time. Over 80% of that which is found in the so called "New Testament" can be traced directly back to quotes in the Tanakh (Old Testament). Funny how history brings the truth out.
I trust scientific dating. It's one of the reasons why I am a Christian. For example, I believe that the Big Bang Theory is a powerful argument for the existence of God as it shows that matter literally came out of nothing. What makes more sense...that matter just sprung out of nothing or that God created the universe at some finite point in time through the Big Bang? We also know, through nature and science, that the infinite does not exist in reality. Therefore, the universe was never eternal. Of course, I am paraphrasing quite a bit! But, that's the gist of it.
Unless of course, it contradicts one's belief system, then it will be considered a fraud.
You mean through things like the Gnostic Gospels, Q, and other "missing" books of the Bible? The whole point of the gathering of the Bishops at the Council of Nicea in 320AD was to quell these spin-off texts from cults.
That's great, now we have 5,000 and 1. Maybe that extra one will convince the skeptics.
We actually have over 5700+ manuscripts of the New Testament We find about 100+ new copies per decade with an increasing rate of finds over the last 5 years!
No other historical or classic literature comes even close. Of course, this does not prove that Christianity is true...but it sure does make you ask why the explosion of text after the death of Jesus.
I wonder where it was found? Imagine it is a fragment of the original autograph .. How cool would that be not that they'd be able to tell if it was, unless of course by some stroke of luck it had Mark's signature on it
