No, Finn, it was not: it was another case of "do it my way, problem solved." A better resolution would bew for all of those people to realize that they are puppets in the hands of demogogues on the political right and actually consider what the Bible has to say on how to handle difficult situations with unbelievers. (Hint: return not evil for evil). Self-righteousness is strongly discouraged.

So, if I say Congress can write a law to satisfy both parties, that somehow translates to something completely different in your mind.

Disagree for the sake of disagreeing........argue for the sake of arguing.......

Congress cannot change the CONSTITUTION. The 14th amendment states EQUALITY is the LAW..

RIGHTS CANNOT BE LEGISLATED...

RIGHTS will not be negotiated...

This is commonly referred to as CHRISTIAN SHARIA LAW...It will never be allowed.

..Do you believe a person whose religious beliefs say its a shameful thing to sell goods or services to African Americans or Israelis should be allowed to turn them away? What about Ex-convicts?

A pessimist, yes. Problem solver, no.
No just stating a fact. If you write a law that allows religion to trump any anti-discrimination law, then that would go for ANY religion. There is not way to write a law that allows only one religion to discriminate based on their beliefs and have it pass constitutional muster.

If you allow something for one religion, you allow it for any and all others too.

It is not about issuing, or not issuing the licenses. They can be issued, while allowing certain people to decline signing them. Someone else can sign them.
Which is what Kim was offered and SHE REFUSED.
SHE was the one not satisfied with that compromise.

Read post 152 and the other posts where I repeated the point. It has nothing to do with what Davis did, or didn't do.

I wonder why this is so hard to understand. Rights are enshrined in the constitution. the law can legislate about how to apply it and where it is being breached. let's remember that all the time the US was living according to the Constitution, gay marriage was not a right and being GAY was not allowable.

The Rights are there but sometimes society takes a while to catch up with the ideals. Ok, there are some who never can 'catch up'. It is their RIGHT to not catch up if they don't want. It is their RIGHT to believe all sorts of mad stuff if they want It is not the right of Gay Persons to go into their homes and tell them they have to be Gay or Lesbian. Neither is it the right of them to go into society and work to prevent Gays from having the same rights as anyone else.

It is of course not going to work to say that allowing two dudes to marry means that Christians have to marry someone of the same sex. That claim would be howled down. So it has to be that some traditional Meaning of 'marriage' is being forced to become gay though allowing Gay marriage. It doesn't mean anything of the kind, any more than allowing Hindus to talk of God means that the Christian God is somehow Tashlanned (1) This attempt to turn "We disapprove of this" via '"You are offending us" into "you are attacking our beliefs" is now being seen for the sham that it is and fewer and fewer people are buying the scam.
So, while it is .. academically interesting to see how many sound arguments can be pushed away by the implacable dunderhead, it is really just amusement as the skirmish is over, the battle against Gay marriage lost and the ongoing war against a secular society rather than a Theocratic one has to look for a new battleground. I would guess that it will be secularism in politics and a removal of religious shibboleths from public utilities..you know what I mean.

(1) see the Last Battle. C.S Lewis' Narnia series(also Shift -the ape).

The First Amendment already covers ALL of the above. It does a fine job just the way it is, IF it is followed.
