The city of Corinth was a crossroads for travelers and traders and, consequently, many different languages were spoken. The Pentecostal Church introduced a new kind of language, otherwise known as 'babble', that has nothing to do with scripture.

Yes. Babel=babble=incomprehensible utterance=confusion. God allegedly caused the tower builders to speak different languages so they would not understand each other. And, by doing this, God thwarted their selfish plans.

Tongues were one of the signs to validate the ministry of the Apostles......and it was a known language.....folks from all over were at Pentecost and heard the gospel in their own home language.......it is not for today as we have a complete Bible and there is no longer any need for prophets or prophecy.........those calling themselves prophets (profits) are simply frauds and should be ignored

And we have more firm the prophetic word, to which we do well giving heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, till day may dawn, and a morning star may arise -- in your hearts;

this first knowing, that no prophecy of the Writing has (only) a single interpretation.

for not by will of man did ever prophecy come, but by the Holy Spirit borne on holy men of God spake.

like the image below, the bible speaks in (multiple) tongues (at once)

Jabbering in ANY language NO ONE in the room can understand is GIBBERISH and FALSE TEACHING..

Speaking in "tongues" is meant to edify those present at the time, and there must be SOMEONE who understands that language for it to be edifying..

God still speaks today. Prophecy is still spoken and those who reject such are not listening to the Word.

That's right, and it is why I stopped speaking in tongues.

Most of the prophets I run across are not frauds, they just aren't prophets of God. Most people cannot get their head around the idea of what is really taking place when a spirit begins wanting to prophesy in a person. They do actually hear a whisper and because they know for sure that something is speaking to them, they just assume that it has to be God but it isn't.

It is this spirit we are taught to overcome just like Jesus telling those disciples,'' You speak from your father Satan.''

Those disciples who wanted to call fire down on the heads of people who rejected Christ actually heard a spirit speak to them but it was not the spirit of God but the spirit of a false prophet who brings judgment instead of love.

But if a spirit speaks in anyone, they just assume that only God can do this.

Prophecy usually indicates acting as a spokesman for God repeating what He has already said, not foretelling the future. All Christians when they speak to another from the Bible, as an example are acting as Prophets.

Speaking in "tongues" involves many languages since the word is plural. That means far more than just the "prayer" language many claim, and can't speak in any other tongue, thus showing they do not really speak in "tongueS".

The biggest problem in understanding what Paul said of tongues.

The understanding of this one scripture.

1 Corinthians 14
36WHAT? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

Well if they did the work, and have the status, why not exalt yourself? Not all ppl need god, they're fine on their own, the belief that all should go to any god is a.cult belief.

The prayer language can be greater than speaking in tongues if you're saying something important. And ppl can speak different things, sayting things in different ways, and different ideas. That's the prayer way if speaking in tongues.
