I once met the author of the first article on domestic abuse to appear in a major national magazine. The article was published in 1975. That's only 42 years ago.
Before that, wife-beating was swept under the rug, and part of that was because of "wives, be subject to your husbands", without a doubt.
If so, they gladly made their own bed for the wrong reasons all together.

You honestly think God sees it as sin if someone gets out of an abusive marriage? Divorce is allowed in the case of a partner being unfaithful so it only stands to reason that divorce can be allowed for even greater sins. Also, Romans 7:2-3 clearly states you can remarry if your spouse as died. So there are various reasons why a person might have multiple marriages. It's not the baker's job to dig into their personal business and find out if the reason is sinful or not.

LOVE is NOT unique to any 'new' covenant. "For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another (1 John 3:11)."
The difference is that it is the principle that guides the "New Covenant" and not the laws or rules that should give the appropriate actions but which don't address the motivation.
