Jesus doesn't "endorse"1-man-1-woman marriage in that passage. That's a clever little anti-gay twist, but anyone with half a brain can see through it. (And, by the way, I heard that one being pushed years ago, so I know you didn't think it up yourself.)
He affirmed marriage in creation of Adam and Eve, and did not ever affirm any other form.
Quote:
You can't be serious. We have to answer this AGAIN? The Bible was written by people who would have had no concept in their time and culture of same sex marriage. You can bet that homosexual relationships existed, though. Who even knows when "the first marriage" was. Don't give up all your dignity and try to tell me you mean Adam and Eve. Please.
Yet, they knew that homosexual acts were wrong. And Jesus never corrected it.
Quote:
C'mon. God had nothing to do with marriage to begin with. Marriage is a human social construct.
And that really is what it's about, isn't it? There isn't a church in America that actually believes the Bible that teaches homosexuality and same sex marriage is moral.

It's not moral or immoral. It just is a feature of humanity.
Again, everything is not divisible into right/wrong, black/white, good/evil. That's where you are stuck.
And not everything about humanity is addressed in The Bible. You seem to not be able to understand that it was written by people in a time and culture very different from ours and that this has to be taken into account.

Virtually all sin is a "feature of humanity." This is pretty much Christianity 101. Extensive research on pedophilia shows that it's far more complex than is often assumed and that pedophiles might well make the same "just a feature of who I am" argument. Ditto for zoophiles - some of those who engage in bestiality make precisely the same "orientation" argument as homosexuals.
Because all humans are sinners living in a fallen creation, most of have proclivities toward specific sins and many of those proclivities have genetic or biological components or psychological aspects. According to the American Society of Addictions Medicine, genetics accounts for 50% of the likelihood that someone will develop an addiction - any addiction, including an addiction to pornography or immoral sexual behaviors.
The sort of "anything goes" Christianity we see promoted on these forums would - and does - swallow up all notions of sin: I'm OK, you're OK, God is OK with all of us, and Jesus just wants us to be nice to each other.
Certainly, not everything about humanity is addressed in the Bible. But homosexuality is, and sexual immorality in general is. It's addressed - emphasized, even - because it's fundamentally contrary to God's plan for humanity.
The Christianity of the Bible offers the godly way to deal with sinful proclivities: Not by resigning ourselves to them being "just a feature of who I am," not by pretending they aren't sinful and asking others to celebrate with us, but by confession, repentance and sanctification through the power of the Holy Spirit.
That "time and culture very different from ours" that you're talking about lasted up until about 40 years ago. Depravity is countenanced today that would not have been tolerated even 20 years ago. To try to cast this as a debate between the Dark Ages of Yesteryear and the Enlightened Age of Today is false and disingenuous. The reality is, we're living in the End Times of Depravity the Bible uncannily described almost 2000 years ago.
LMAO. What the hell? Slightly off-topic there, dude, but it's interesting to learn where your mind goes.
I'm sorry to disappoint you. I've lived a dull life. No Plato's, never have even been to the Village Halloween Parade. For the most part, I went to work in the city and went home. Many days I never stepped outside from the time I left Jersey in the morning until the time I got home at night. Took my kid in occasionally to work and to a museum or just to walk around at Christmas. Very occasionally met friends for drinks after work. A handful of plays and concerts and sporting events. Typical for the suburban commuter.
There were always gay people around, even back in 1979 when I started working in Manhattan. At first it was new to me to know people who were openly gay, but after a while, they were just part of the scenery, and eventually, things changed enough that they become more open. But these were not the caricatures made famous by The Village People. They were, and are, engineers, architects, lawyers, accountants, businesspeople. I know a married female couple who are both university professors.
It's just so bizarre to me that some people desperately need to believe that GOD thinks these folks are sinful abominations.
God must have thought they were something even if you don't think they were abominations when they were dropping like flies dying to aids in the eighties while you were coming through the bridge and tunnel to work in the city.
Homosexuals had tea-dances in the afternoons at bars then in order to hook up for the evenings. Mom, who went out in the mornings for her cappuccinos, said she would see naked men - those architects and lawyers, engineers and business people, architects and university professors - collapsed on the sidewalk from the night before on Christopher Street, a block from our townhouse on Grove Street.
When gays infiltrated Plato's Retreat, they wrecked it for the heterosexual couples who went there to fornicate and got infected by aids and crab. The club tried to ban the gays but closed down after the heterosexuals fled. Your "unceasing niceness and tolerance" (Irkle) is enabling the gay community and furthering the meltdown of morals in America. But you are unsullied. You are not made impure by it all because you are prim and proper. You have a dull life, and, in contrast, look so much better in God's eyes. But pride is as abominable as lust, two of the seven faces of supernatural evil.

How was my sermon?
Hilarious! You're a decent writer and can do satire. I especially liked the AIDS-is-a-punishment-from-God revival. It's a virus, but I bet there are still a lot of people out there who believe God Sends Viruses.
(And you know way, way, too much about Plato's Retreat. )

You are confused. You are associating lustful debauchery divorced from any love or decency with normal sexuality as an expression of love and intimacy. Apparently, you are unaware of the difference.

Yes. I will stick by my statement. There is not a Bible-believing church in America that actually teaches it's moral. God explicitly condemns homosexuality.

Educated, mature, intelligent, thoughtful Christians are able to separate the biblical wheat from its chaff.
It's truly unfortunate that fundies are incapable of doing the same. The planet would be much closer to an Eden if they could.
