Well, Catholics do that (you might like to know that).
But that's not mentioned in that passage - that's my point.
As for the rest of that passage, I don't know, call me crazy but it sure does seem like Paul is telling the Corinthians to DISCERN THE BODY OF CHRIST.
29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
Paul, in these verses, is actually stating that we need to discern BOTH, both ours, as well as Christs.
the following verses really put the spotlight as to what he means in so far as discerning...:
1 Corinthians 6:15-16 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?
Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute?
Never!
Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body?
For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."
So, that begs the question, how can one become 'One Flesh' with bread and wine that's 'just a symbol'? That's right - you Can't.

5 chapters apart, speaking of 2 completely different topics. You're reading into it to make that jump.
BF, if you really want to understand what the Catholic Church teaches about the Eucharist, read the teachings directly from the Catechism instead of misrepresenting the teachings as "eating pieces of flesh" or whatever it was you said along those lines. Here's a good source:

I grew up Catholic. I've listened to countless hours of Catholic apologists. I know what the teaching is probably better than most. Please don't assume that I don't know.

Nobody is assuming anything. We're objecting to your use of the phrase "pieces of flesh".
