Supposedly there are fields loaded with methane that are on fire in the mideast............spoken of in the book as real fire. The book talks about a body fit for hell.........supposedly heat doesn't affect. Hell will not be a walk in the park.......pitch black just you and the demons. Another aspect is no one here has experienced life completely separated from God.......not good either.....God puts life and death before us all.........choose life............

The individual and the collective are to be separated and returned back to their own natural state

In Germany with the holocaust we see the damage that can be done by a society where they lose sight of individual human rights and perpetuate evil

We also see currently what society can be led to be when it loses sight of basic moral things and plays follow the leader, copy cat crime, etc

2Pe 3:7**But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
2Pe 3:8**But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe 3:9**The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2Pe 3:10**But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11**Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12**Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13**Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

I'm liking that scripture John 5:29. Very cool. That would be a lot of people I know.
Of course, referring to the unregenerated souls, the following is written,

Rom 3:12, They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

And again, it is written,

Rom 3:23, For all have sinned (done evil), and come short of the glory of God;

So, John 5:29 would be in condemnation of everyone...

Now there is an exception to this rule.

We can be forgiven of the evil things that we have done;

And in being forgiven we will be regenerated and renewed on the inside.

In that, we become inclined towards doing good.

They have the benefit of two thousand+ years of rationalizing the irrational!! We are nothing if not extremely clever and creative in our rationalizations, sad to say!!! It has relegated more rational answers to the trash heap of heresy and prevented any real understanding of Jesus, God, and His actual Gospel!!!

The lake of fire is the second death, not the first.
So, are you of the belief that the first death is one's 'natural' death that befalls all of us while the second death is total annihilation?

I don't believe in annihilation. The human soul is immortal by nature.

There are burning pits all over this world from Baba Gurgur, Iraq to Smoking Hills, Canada and more in various places. None can compare to the fire of God which will be joy to some and sorrow to others.

God is love, light and an all consuming fire. The same fire that is the light of paradise to those who love the Lord will be torment to those who hate the Lord. It is both heaven and hell. God doesn't need to create a lake of fire. He is the fire.

I am really interested in the human/demon interaction that will be going on in hell. Do the demons suffer with the humans or do they get to torture and make fun of the humans for being so dumb as not to accept Jesus.

And of course the Devil will be down there too. Hopefully he gets to make the rounds down there so everybody has a chance to meet him. I know it's going to be dark and all but it would be a shame to have to spend eternity in hell and never get to meet the real Devil.

I had read when Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed, the devestation left many pools of burning sulfur -> appearing as lake(s) of fire. This may be where some of the imagery comes from.

But I don't think anyone will be in the lake of fire forever.
