The City of Seattle has apparently been putting in the leg work to see what can be done to get an Arena deal together and convince the Sacramento Kings to relocate up to Seattle and replace the Sonics who left in 2009.

I know that people in Cincinnati are soured on the recent stadium deals for GABP and PBS, and that public financing for a new arena is not likely a popular (or even possible) endeavor. However the construction on the banks, the new casino complex, and other development down town makes me think big more projects could be possible.
From the looks of the design, The Horseshoe Casino will leave enough space on the northern end of Broadway commons, near Liberty and Reading, to fit a large Arena. If this where built as an extension of the Casino it could host a variety of things, such as boxing events, theatrical shows, Bearcats basketball, etc. and/or sever as auxiliary space for the convention center. maybe Caesars Entertainment, Duke Energy, and Global Spectrum (owns the Flyers and 76ers), could team up and build the "Caesar Spectrum" ?

Additionally, this could mean removing the Coliseum and expanding the Banks park area in its place....

Just wondering if:

1) Anyone is talking about bring the Royals (Kings) back to Cincy as a possibility.

2) Do you think Cincy can/would support a 3rd major sports franchise

3) What do you think?

No Arena will happen in Hamilton county funded by tax payers ever again. The best chance to ge one built is along the Butler Warren county boarder shared between the two counties.

Not an NBA fan. We already have UC and XU basketball. It would be cool to have on the Banks though. NBA would never put a team close to a casino.

Would much rather have an NHL team than an NBA team.

I don't expect to see the NBA in Cincinnati in my lifetime, which doesn't have all that long to go. I enjoyed watching the Royals in the old Cincinnati Garden. That was a totally different era. In today's atmosphere I have to agree building a stadium for an NBA team after the two debacles we currently have is just not going to happen. I feel an NHL team is about in the same boat. If someone wants to come in and build a stadium for either, they may have success. But the way things are done now in professional sports that is not likely to happen. I figure if Cleveland could not keep the Cavaliers we are not about to get anything.

The problem is who is going to fund that? Doe you believe Butler/Warren residents will want to touch that period? I don't? I believe we have learned a lesson from such as the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit. Suburban stadiums are not the answer. Downtown stadiums is where things should be. If the professional sports cannot finance their own facilities, in my opinion we do not need them.

Honestly, I have never heard ANYONE talk about Cincinnati getting another NBA franchise. As one of those who was around when they played in Cincinnati in the 60s, they did not draw all that well DESPITE having two local legends - Jerry Lucas (Ohio State) and Oscar Robinson (Cincinnati).

When the Royals were in Cincinnati, they NEVER once drew an average of 7,000 for a season (only 6,909 in 1963-64 and only 1,879 in 1959-60). And they often had discounted tickets.

Ummm.... Seeing that I was just at a Cavaliers game 2 days ago, I'd say you had better check your info sources.

I'd like to see Cincy land a team. Another "Battle of Ohio" would be great to see.

Yea, I had a brain malfunction. The team didn't move, they just lost their superstar. I guess that's why I momentarily thought the Cavaliers had left. But looking at the record, I can see why I thought the team left town.

Cincinnati has a hard enough time holding on to a minor league hockey team. I think the NHL is out of the question.

The NBA was fun to watch while they were here. But back then teams had automatic territorial draft rights within a radius of their location. Why do you think the Royals ended up with both Lucas and Robertson? Memories of watching Maurice Stokes and Jack Twyman play are also very vivid.

But all of professional sports today are different. The fight over the money has changed all of the games. I don't see a NBA sized arena in Cincinnati's future period.

Xavier has their relatively new Cintas Center. I do believe the University of Cincinnati will replace the aging Fifth Third Arena but expect it to be located near campus. Being remote from campus has too negative an effect on student participation, which is needed, plus practice schedules which are imperative if it is to be anythiing close to a home field advantage.

Maybe someone with an NBA interest should look towards building an arena in NKY and trying like Hell to draft UK players. Those nuts over there just might be willing to support it.
