let me help, look at your 3rd map and your 6th map.

why do you think the 6th is bigger than the 3rd??
Well, my ranking is based on how big the CSAs feel imo, the maps are about the main clusters of 5,000+ppsm.

Which cities are you talking about?

Also, my opinion is a work in progress pending evidence in favor or to the contrary.

end of the day CSA may be a developed expanse but being in SJ does not make SF feel larger as a city, at least to me. It just demonstates the area has developed areas in a broader region, honestly from that perspective the NE is basically just one huge developed region from NH to NOVA

lol, look at the maps I told you to look at.

and what does the csa have to do with anything? The CSA just makes your choice looks worse

look at what the CSA adds to those cities.

Thanks but I do believe that CSA development is the ultimate decider because it shows the total extent of a city's influence which to me is a huge factor in determining physical "size".

As far as the 5000+ppsm maps, I never made the claim that they are symbols of a big city but I have stated in this thread that they simply a map of the size of the 5000+ppsm clusters that are to-scale.

As far as the NE, that region is a megalopolis.

But to be honest, I prefer to be isolated from the NE and most of the rest of the country because that has given California's 2 world cities the opportunity to develop their own respective megalopolis and huge spheres of influence.

Yeah, I still dont know what your getting at but the question in this thread is not "what is the best planned" but what cities feel the biggest and I have been consistent for years here on C-D that I judge size in almost every comparison based on CSA.

To each his own.

Map 3 is philly and map 6 is DFW.

your maps show that DFW 5000ppsm areas are not as large as Philly's

and your CSA criteria does not help either because the DFW CSA only adds a few rural counties while Phillies add some much bigger counties.

so was just wondering what criteria you used to getting the feel because Philly seems bigger on both those metrics

Ohhhhh, Philly and Dallas.

To be honest, in my own research I have come to believe that I probably should have ranked Philadelphia higher but I just cant get passed its borders and how its sandwiched in between NY and DC. As I stated to kidphilly, I have driven through the border of NY/Phi and DC/Phi several times and I have a good idea of how big the Philadelphia Area is and I always "perceived it" to feel smaller but clearly if we look at the density clusters for 10,000+ppsm, Philadelphia's main cluster is probably 4th behind NY, LA and Chicago so like I said, my opinion is a work in progress.

lol, well t is your opinion if you feel that Philly is not that big, can't change that. But it just looks odd seeing it listed with Houston, and ATL and smaller than DFW.

do you really think it feels THAT small?? How well do you know those areas. People assume a lot just based on the number of people in the sunbelt metros.
