Where I live is pretty much a more boring version of California, particularly San Diego...
I've long been fascinated with the US and California. I'm a huge fan of the psychedelic 60s, hippies, classic rock groups like the Doors, Love etc as well as a major Beach Boys fan. Also being a movie buff I love LA for it's film history. Hopefully I will get to live in LA a year, as well as NY for a year, both cities which were really awesome to visit!
Doesn't Seattle have a huge asian population, too?
Yes it does, but the sheer number is significantly less than LA and SF, and the percentage is less than half of SF and lower than LA as well.
Asian Population, 2010 Census
Los Angeles 2,199,186 12.3% of the total population
San Francisco 1,676,939 22.5% of the total population
Seattle 424,645 10.1% of the total population
This is a tough one. It's clear that Asians are more visible in the Bay area simply because they constitute a far larger share of the total population, and are the largest racial minority in most of the heavily populated parts of the Bay Area. Also, the Bay Area has a far more visible South Asian population than the LA area.
That having been said, the LA area has a much more significant Korean and Japanese populations, two groups that they Bay Area seems to not have in abundance, while having large amounts of most of the East and Southeast Asian groups that are present in the Bay Area.
Japanese people tend to live in SJ and SF... San Jose is home to one of three remaining historical Japantowns in America.
Koreans have never had much of a presence here... there is a new Koreatown in Oakland though (although the neighborhood itself has very few Koreans).
The DC area has a large number of asians too. Probably not as high as the west coast cities, but I bet it ranks #2 in the east behind NYC. Anyone have the numbers?

Asian Population by CSA or MSA, 2010 Census Los Angeles 2,199,186 12.3% of the total population
New York-Newark-Bridgeport 2,008,906 9.1% of the total population
San Francisco 1,676,939 22.5% of the total population Washington 645,203 7.5% of the total population
Who cares..that makes NY the hub of Asian culture in the US..1 million is a HUGE number.
