If we're talking best downtown shopping districts in the U.S., I would probably go with

1. NYC (by a million miles)

2. SF
3. Chicago
4. Boston
5. Seattle, DC and Philly are roughly tied

On second thought, carry on.

Agreed with this list, though I would switch 2 and 3 around. Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta are close too.

Agreed. Mag Mile is a clear 2nd IMO though I do love SF as well.

I would take dt DC off this list. Tied? Major shopping for DC is better at Pentagon City, Georgetown or Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase.

Not a thousand. More like 500.

I would go with SF as the #2 shopping district, over Chicago, for the following reasons-

1. SF retail rents are the second highest in the nation, after NYC

2. SF has more flagship-sized department stores than Chicago. Chicago only has a flagship-sized Macys, and the rest of the department stores are normal mall-sized. SF has a flagship Macys (second largest in the nation) a flagship Bloomingdales (second largest in the nation), and bigger Nordstrom, Saks and Neiman Marcus stores than in Chicago.

3. SF has more international stores, especially upscale chains from Asia
