How many highrises are going up in Miami and NYC? I know NYC has TONS going up.
Chicago is currently at 44 under actual construction and 3 more that are having site-work/demo. There are 60+ proposals, but I don't really look at much until financing is in place and there is actual site-work/demo (it's GOING to happen).
What about other places with a lot of highrise construction? Stats?
LA has a lot but probably not 44 in the city limits. I count 21 downtown. I'm not sure what Hollywood, koreatown, century city, etc would add but it should get to at least 30. Maybe higher. I'm just not familiar with what's going on elsewhere although I hear Hollywood is booming too. Almost all are residential or hotel.
NYC has about ~100 highrises currently U/C. Its hard to track though.
There are 19 skyscrapers over 670ft currently u/c, 7 supertalls u/c with 6 recently topped out.
In addition, there are 12 more skyscrapers over 670ft in site prep, including 6 supertalls.
There are proposals for about 25 more supertalls, and ~50 skyscrapers above 670ft. I am pretty sure nobody tracks highrise proposals, because people can barely keep track of all the highrises currently u/c in all the boroughs in the first place, let alone proposals.
Here is a render of most current and future projects we know of:
looks like a lot in Queens if I am reading the picture correctly
Boston has 20 projects over 300 feet tall under construction, approved, or proposed in the city limits as well as one proposal over 300 feet in Cambridge.
If projects over 200 feet are included (this allows the FAA height restricted buildings of the seaport district to be counted) there is a total of 38 projects.
Over on Archboston Downburst posted images of the 3D models he had created and placed in Google Earth. They can also be seen here ecbrads Flickr

The city of Miami currently has 21 towers over 500+ feet /152+ meters tall Under Construction in the city proper now.
With it's completed 31 towers of similar height it now ranks #3 in the US in this category after NYC & Chicago.

Well what do you define as a highrise?
How many stories or feet high?
Remember Miami is a tiny city at 35 Square miles but the construction overflows to suburbs like Miami Beach , Sunny Isles Beach , Ft. Lauderdale ,etc.
At least for Chicago's current 48 highrises at the moment it's buildings that are 13 or more floors. There are tons of midrises going up around the north and northwest sides.
A few more towers will be added to the total soon for the first phase of the Riverline development that's permitted now and starting construction in the next two weeks. It will consist of 5 high rises and a variety of midrises and townhomes along with a riverwalk and retail. One of the largest single developments in Chicago in quite a few years. 3,200 housing units altogether.

Seattle is a explosive boom city now….literally cranes everywhere. Incredible time for this city.
This seems to be the concensus for every city in this thread.
