Dc takes more tax dollars in than it gives. Comparing it to california is outright blasphemy. We pay for your toys. When you are financially stable enough to pay for your own things, and other people's things, than you can have the word california come out of your mouth

In DC's defense, we don't have voting representation in Congress, so we therefore had no representation in taxes. That said, I bet the DC metro area pays more than it takes.

What do taxes have to do with pop culture which is pretty much what the comparison was about? You may want to go back and read slowly.

We do, especially here on the Maryland side of the metro area.
I'm actually going to go out on a limb here and argue for Indianapolis.
Obviously there are lots of differences (scope of influence, public transportation, immigrant communities, vegetation), but both cities are designed around a meticulously planned grid, with diagonals and squares. Both cities are home to some studding monuments, which are highlighted by the city's layout.
Both cities have amazing trails and parkways that line small rivers. Most streets in both cities are named after states. Both cities are similar in weather and are located at similar latitudes.
Culturally, both cities (imhu) are definitive Northern with some Southern elements.
I would say it was somehwere inbetween Atlanta and Phildelphia in terms of the kind of vibe I get there but at the same time it stands on it's own. In another way the downtown layout is based on a European model which is gives it a slight European feel a bit like san Francisco imo.
