But how much experience do you have with the other cities being talked about? Charlotte is far from being the most culturally southern city in the region, but LESS southern than Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Austin? Not a chance.

You must have very little experience with the Texas cities especially Austin.

He apparently has had ZERO experience with Atlanta.

No more apparent than his experience with the others.

Houston is certainly not the most southern city on the list but it does have some quintessential southern characteristics that the others do not.

I'd say it's more like everything west of I-35 is southwestern but whatever the percentage Texas is one of those states where different regions meet. Texas in my opinion draws influence from not only the south but southwest and a little Midwest thrown in. This state can't be easily pigeonholed into any particular region. We have our own distinct flavor.

What's southwestern about Texarkana?

Nothing that I know of. I just never understand what people mean when they say that Texas has one identity that is a mixture of South, Midwest and Southwest. North Texas and the Panhandle obviously bare similarities to the MW but the only part of the state that seems to be an actual mixture of south and southwest is central Texas.
