Detroit is 281 as of December 17th.

Same time last year it was 301. The last time Detroit ended the year under 300 murders was in 1967 (which actually ended with 281). Though of course, the homicide rate would have been a lot lower that year with the population difference, likely somewhere around 25-30 per 100K people.

67 in Nashville. That's the highest number since 2009.

2011:

Boston metro had 95 murders and the city had 57. Metro rate of 2.1. With Boston only having 36 murders this year, the rate is going to drop well below 2. Boston is about as safe as you can get for a major city in the US. Even SD and Seattle have higher rates.

DC metro had 210 murders and the city had 88. Metro rate of 3.6.

NYC metro had 852 murders and the city had 419. Metro rate of 3.8.

Philly metro had 517 murders and the city had 333. Metro rate of 8.6.

That place has gotten worse. Newark has not had under 90 homicides since 2009. From 2001-2009, it had under 90 homicides 5 times out of those 9 years and yet it hasn't had under 90 murders in the last 6 years now.

Its rate this year is around 36/100k. 2013 was still the worst year of the 2000s. Murder rate was 40.3/100k.

Atlanta is at 93 as of 12/12. It was 89 the same time last year. Unfortunately it had 2 murders that week while the previous year had 0.
