It maybe is overrated. But there isn't anything in Texas like that.

Houston is the more popular spot for Black Americans but the Black population for both cities are roughly the same size.
Thanks for the numbers! Where is the source so I can look at other places as well?

Also, from the figures that Peter posted, the fact that DFW has almost 1 million more whites than Houston, I can see kind of see why Houston is more popular for blacks and how you see way more blacks than what the population suggests; the area doesn't really have a race that's landslide over the other one compared to DFW.

Austin has a pretty unique, off-beat culture. Especially for the region. That alone is a draw for many. It has an excellent food scene (especially food trucks), great nightlife (going well beyond 6th Street which may be overrated but it's still unique- Rainey Street is exceptionally unique and offers a completely different atmosphere), some of the best live music in the country, and a young, educated population all boxed up in a relatively compact urban package (unlike Dallas and Houston which are so spread out). That's what draws tourists. That's why I have gone to Austin multiple times as a tourist. It's a better city for tourists than Dallas or Houston.

Your posts on Austin reek of sour grapes.

Well, you're comparing a metro of 2 million to metros of 6+ million. Of course the airport will be smaller and there will be fewer hotel rooms and less convention space. Houston and Dallas don't have anything like SXSW though. And unless you're hosting a Super Bowl (which Houston and Dallas have done successfully) or Olympics, most major concerts, festivals, and other events are perfectly handled by a place like Austin.

Well, it's as you say: Austin is smaller with much of its attractions being concentrated in one general area, but as a whole it is neither more compact or more urban than Houston and Dallas.

Thats true. Its not so much that there are a lot more black, Hispanic, or Asian residents in Houston, but there are a lot more white residents in DFW. Specifially, the North and West sides of the metroplex. If you look at a racial distribution map of DFW, the highest concentration of white residents is Keller, up to Southlake, Collin County (outside of Plano), and Denton County (outside the Lewisville/Carrollton area).

Naturally DFW is a lot larger than Houston. This even being the case, the concentration of white residents in DFW is lower than most others in the South including Atlanta, Orlando, Birmingham, New Orleans, etc. Just like Harris County, the majority of the residents in Dallas county are Hispanic.

Thanks for the source. I like you, Peter, even though we disagree. lol.

Naturally as in size or population? DFW and Houston are 500,000 +/- apart.

This is why I say that it seems like Houston is more Asian and more black because of the population percentages. Also, the fact that the black population in Houston is almost equally distributed north and south makes it seem like there more blacks than what the census suggests. This distribution is different than DFW and Atlanta as the bulk of those two areas' blacks are along/below a particular interstate.

For me this is how I view Dallas and Houston-
Dallas- random skyscraper in Dallas
Jennifer- dressed in a business suit with 2,000 dollar stilettos on. Oh my god mark can you believe that **** only put ****ing blue lights on! That completely ruins the point doesn't he know that if he is going with primary colors he has to put T least 3 LED colors in his building he completely ruined the night skyline.
Mark- dressed in shirt, jeans and 300 dollar Jordan's, I know how can he not put at least orange, red and green LEDs on his skyscraper, seriously he is making us look like Houston!
Houston- random skyscraper
Wade- "hey Bill (wade says chewing on a hamburger) don't you think we should turn on the white lights now! It's already 9:00 PM."
Bill- "meh only 3 buildings turn on their lights at night downtown so dead the only thing they would do is illuminate the empty streets. Plus the light might give kids epilepsy if we turn it on, we don't want to get sued."
I
This is how I see Houston and Dallas when driving past downtown at night.

I hope I misinterpreted your last sentence about Atlanta's black distribution only being along a certain highway. Anyone who's even spent a weekend here knows that not to be remotely true.

Atlanta is pretty segregated though. Moreso than the Texas metros.
