Chattanooga to visit, but Knoxville to live in. I'd love in Farragut. Knoxville seems to have more safe neighborhoods than Chattanooga. But Knoxville is a bore compared to Chattanooga, although Chattanooga really is a very outdoorsy city and a very high bar to set. Chattanooga is, hands down, the most rugged city of its size in the South AND the Midwest. In my opinion, the natural setting of Chattanooga is every bit as scenic as the natural setting of San Francisco, and in some ways, even more scenic. If Chattanooga kept the natural setting it has now but became a big, dense city with a huge skyline and several monumental suspension bridges and iconic ethnic neighborhoods, people would be visiting Chattanooga, not San Francisco.
But Knoxville really ain't bad. Warm climate, still got some four seasons, fall foliage, and winter snow, but not so much you have to shovel it. Also very close to the most visited national park in the country, and a fun gimmicky tourist trap like Gatlinburg. And of course, right next to Oak Ridge, the flagship national laboratory in America. And still very close to Knoxville, as well. I know Tennesseans probably think Knoxville is far from Chattanooga, but to me, who grew up in California, a two hours drive is very close for a day trip.
Lincoln or Regina? Assume you have both US and Canadian citizenship.
Lincoln. Nice city and not far from Omaha. Escondido CA or Carlsbad CA?
Hendersonville. Close to Nashville. Tallahassee FL or Huntsville AL?
I like Huntsville because I think it's somewhat up and coming and one of the south's "best kept secret." High quality of life with a low COL. A two hour drive will lead you to Nashville.
Lakewood Ohio or Pittsburgh PA

Philadelphia. It's cheaper. Portland, TN or Grandview, MO?
Grandview... both are part of decent sized metro areas, but Grandview is twice as close to the core of Kansas City than Portland is to Nashville so that proximity gives it the edge to me.
Ellicott City, easily. Educated affluent suburbia with about 30% Asian. Close to DC. 10 minute Uber drive to a MARC station. You can use Baltimore easily without dealing with the city problems.
Newport RI or Annapolis MD?
