Hobson's choice. But if I'm going to live in an incorporated slum, I should at least live in one that has some life and hope left in it. Gary, Ind., it is.

Springfield, Mo., or Springfield, Ill.?

Springfield, MO... bigger metro, slightly warmer year-round, proximity to the Ozarks would make for some nice day trips.

Woodward, OK or Fort Stockton, TX?

Which flavor of windswept desolation...Hm. I've been through Fort Stockton on I-10. It is so far from everything. But its relative proximity to the Big Bend Region give it more appeal than western Oklahoma, so I'll go with Fort Stockton.

Watkins Glen, New York or Sebring, Florida?

Greenville due to family ties...

I'll stick with the Berea/Lewisburg comparison.

Scottsbluff without question. It's in a part of the country I wouldn't mind exploring more.

Pine Bluff alone had more homicides than Omaha last year even at 1/10 the size if that tells you anything.
Rough town.

Santa Fe, New Mexico or Newport, Rhode Island?

Santa Fe. I love New Mexico and would love to live there one day. Rhode Island is a lovely place to visit, but I wouldn't care to live there.

Marshall, Minnesota or Platteville, Wisconsin?
