You have high religiosity, urban sprawl, etc, but those aren't really restricted to the South, though.

But certain characteristics i.e. evangelicals are very region specific

I'm guessing the 1 vote for Miami either didn't read carefully and thought 5 was least, or they thought OP meant geographically southern.

I live here, I don't need to google anything.

You're the one that brought it up, I want to hear what you consider the "current day Southern stereotypes" to be.

I'm sure it's all very positive. Isn't that why everyone and his brother are moving down here?

^Roy Moore just happened. That's a prime example that brought alot of "that's Alabama" for ya statements.

^Yeah but he was the butt of jokes including Alabama (which people relate with the South) for weeks...Pat McRory didnt help either last year. I'm only saying that outside of CD alot of people have negative stereotypes about the South. Media and Hollywood don't help either. These stereotypes are another reason alot of folks don't want to be aligned with the South as a home region.

Yes.. I didnt say people aren't moving to the South. I'm only speaking about why people might want to distance themselves from being called a southerner.
