SF vs LA is the largest City rivalry in America.
Besides sports teams, Giants Vs Dodgers, 49ers Vs La Raiders, theres a general dislike of each others city as they both fight for supremacy in the Golden State. Theres even a gang war between the Nortenos(Northern Californians) Vs the Surenos of Southern california. You can litterallly get shot for wearing an LA hat in the Mission District of San Francisco. I herd of stories of people getting jumped in LA county jail for simply having a SF tattoo. I even found this.collection of SF vs LA artwork simply typing SF vs LA on google images, you get tons of high quality results.
No the hate is one-sided. SF hates LA. LA doesn't hate SF. SF has the little man syndrome going on where it thinks it needs to beat its chest and tell everyone how great it is. Everyone in LA is content knowing they enjoy their life there. They enjoy the sunshine, the beaches, the lifestyle, the more attractive people, and the lower COL. LA knows its economy is much larger, as is the city and the metro. There's no need for LA to act superior towards SF. It is a complete one-way hatred from SF towards LA. If SF was really so great, the residents wouldn't have to constantly walk around telling each other how great the city is. I swear people in the city don't stop reminding themselves and their friends how great the city is. In LA, people just go about their lives and do their thing enjoying LA; there is no constant talk about how perfect LA is. People don't get all over social media and tell everyone how perfect their life in LA is. How it's the greatest place on Earth. University of San Francisco's slogan on buses, bus stops, and banners around town was "University of the Greatest City Ever." C'mon! That clearly shows some insecurity when you have to remind yourself, so it only makes sense that the hatred toward LA is only one-sided.

It's really just Dallas vs. Houston. We're just "extra"...
I'm surprised DFW versus Houston has been brought up so many times but no one has mention Dallas and Fort Worth.
Honestly, D vs FW seems more relevant than DFW vs H. Not a comment on which pair of cities/metros (since the CB divides the MSA into two sides) are closer in size, but rather what seems to come up more often in RL. Despite the DFW vs H rivalry being one of the better know city rivalries, most people in both metros hardly have thoughts of the other metro, much less negative thoughts. People just know that its a thing. On the other hand, people on the Dallas side of the metro have stronger opinions of the Fort Worth side than of Houston, more skin to an actual rivalry, and the reverse is true too (flip Dallas and Fort Worth in the sentence). Local media in Dallas also seems to care as much about its rivalry with Houston.
That said, DFW vs Houston seems to have one thing going for it, both sides largely acknowledge each other as equals. Why is it that for the vast majority of city rivalries, they are so one sided?
I'd say that the Boston vs MTL (Habs/Bruins) and Boston vs NYC (Yankees/Sox) rivalries are just as intense as the Lakers/Celtics rivalry.
Though I guess in the context of this thread the Habs/Bruins rivalry might not count? Since Montreal isn't in the US?
