In terms of size. Not in terms of politics. Atlanta is not even the most liberal city in Georgia.

Isn't size more important when it comes to how conservative a place is? Seems like a good sized win by Nathan Deal.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios is much bigger and much more influential than anything Turner has ever had. It's pretty much the top film studio in the country right now, with producers clamorimg to work there -- not simply because Georgia has tax credits (California has tax credits) because it's an absolutely amazing film production complex that's on the cutting edge of moviemaking technology. And this is just one of several new facilities around Georgia being built and designed to meet demand. That, and the state's aggressive program to train people to fill the current shortage of qualified crew.

THIS is why Atlanta's film and TV industry isn't going anywhere. No other state that's offered incentives has been as responsive to the industry as Georgia.

California tax credits aren't equal to NY or georgia tax credits. Or Massachusetts and several others.
Look it up.

Several big producers/directors/actors beg the state every year to even it out .

And there's plenty of evidence of Hollywood shutting down other states once the credits drop

There's no evidence they stay or keep up the same production.

NONE.

It's delusional to think otherwise. And they were ready to shut everything down over that discrimination bill in a blink of an eye.

Studios can go empty just like an office park or strip mall. It doesn't guarantee business because it's there.

Facts are facts. You just assume. Again.

It's not just Georgia. As I said NYC also greatly benefits from tax credits .

Louisiana had the most production in 2013.
Now look at it.
I belive Michigan was 2-3 in one of the recent years.

Its meaningless because it's not permanent. It wasn't long ago posters were calling it Louisiana the new hollywood.

North Carolina was Hollywood east for 20 years or so.

It always ends the same for these states.

Pinewood is only a facility and its crew though, right? I meant to say that the Turner division actually goes through the entire process iincluding development and pre-production.

speaking of which, (serious question) is the next governor of Georgia likely to be Republican? That's the only thing I could see going sour for the biz if another LGBT bill gets to the governors table. Nathan Deal used to be a democrat before he became a republican it seems in 1995. A more conservative governor might go in a different direction. Might not even matter by then though.

Yes, there is concern over the post-Deal period among many of us in Georgia.
The business community here is very powerful & apparently better organized than it's equivalent in N.C. at this point anyway as it put a HUGE amount of pressure into the situation & Gov. Deal saw the light.
The bozos in the state legislature, not so much & it will probably be revived by them again next year as an issue, at the peril of the overall biz climate & reputation of the state.
Come to think of it, it could even imperil the solid republican grip on Georgia's government even sooner than current demographic trends seem to predict will happen.

Ah, see, this is where you should research things before making statements. Georgia isn't just about the tax credits, there has been a lot of work to lure more production work here.

New movie production complexes are opening in Atlanta. Will jobs follow? - Atlanta Magazine

In development

Atlanta Media Campus & Studios
Jim Jacoby is transforming an old fiber-optic cable plant in Gwinnett County into a 5-million-square-foot complex that will feature six soundstages, classrooms, offices, and multifamily housing. Jacoby already has struck a deal with MBS3, a Los Angeles–based studio home to James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.

Atlanta Metro Studios
Developer Rooker plans to overhaul the former Shannon Mall, opened in 1980 and located about 20 miles southwest of Atlanta in Union City, in collaboration with 404 Studio Partners. Former Turner Entertainment Group and Universal Studios executives will be involved with the facilities, which will include a movie and TV studio. The first phase includes some 130,000 square feet of soundstages.

Eagle Rock Studios Atlanta
Who knew? Beer warehouses make good soundstages. That’s what Eagle Rock, a family-owned beverage distributor, learned when it leased space to TV shows Devious Maids and Resurrection. A giant drive-thru designed for delivery trucks proved to be a surprise asset. “The trailers can pull right in and park, which is great for the actors to be right at set. And no one needs to stand around with umbrellas over them in bad weather,” says Fran Lutz, Eagle Rock’s CFO. The firm, which relocated into a former Kraft plant in Norcross, is converting part of that complex into four 30,000-square-foot studios—including a replica drive-thru.

Pinewood Atlanta Studios
A partnership between U.K.-based Pinewood (known for the James Bond flicks) and a local investment group, Pinewood Atlanta comprises six soundstages ranging from 15,000 to 30,000 square feet. The entertainment complex, which was announced in April 2013, is located on 288 acres of land in Fayetteville and will be surrounded by an extensive support network: a caterer, cosmetics retail shop, and casting company. Recently, the studios hosted Marvel Comics’ forthcoming Ant-Man.

Tyler Perry Studios
Atlanta resident Tyler Perry had planned to expand his eponymous production company with 330 acres of the former Army base Fort McPherson as part of a $30 million deal with the city. But as we went to press, that deal was reported to be in jeopardy. Perry might instead expand his existing complex on 1,000 acres in Douglas County.

On Tap?
The Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center was a location in the first season of The Walking Dead and serves as the venue for Steve Harvey–hosted Family Feud. Now the city’s trying to unload the 20-acre property and is soliciting bids for development that include production studios.
This is also not including the production studios of CNN and Turner Networks, both of which are massive.

Granted, you are correct to state that LA boasts significantly more of this however and that's not going anywhere soon. I also don't think Atlanta or NYC or anywhere else is poised to leave LA in the dust either.

You should be wary of dismissing Atlanta. There is infrastructure being put in place to avoid what happened in New Orleans and North Carolina.

New Orleans had facilities. So did north Carolina.
Once the tax credits dried up...

No, LA has way more than anywhere else. It's only somr on this forum that believes otherwise. .

A quick glance at imdb pro says it all. It's too much data to export. But out of every 10 entertainment companies, id say LA has 8 or 9 of them.

Fox just laid out a large expansion in cc this week .
All the major studios are planning some major expansion.
Netflix is sf based, but their expansion in LA will be huge. They just threw a ton of money at new TV shows and movies.
Hulu is LA based and is thinking of doing something silimar.
The hottest/most successful independent movie producer moved from Nyc to Koreatown (Jason blum/blumhouse)
