DC/Baltimore
Chicago
Bay Area

All pretty close.

- Size: Chicago is larger, DC/Baltimore is pretty close in size, but not nearly as coherent as a single entity, the Bay Area is notably smaller than both but has a strong regional identity despite have several focal points

- Importance : DC/Baltimore mostly because of the federal government and by a large stretch, Chicago and the Bay Area are on pretty equal footing overall

- Influence: DC/Baltimore mostly because of the federal government and by a large stretch, Chicago and the Bay Area are on pretty equal footing overall

- Power: DC/Baltimore mostly because of the federal government and by a large stretch, Chicago and the Bay Area are on pretty equal footing overall

- Global profile (brand awareness): DC/Baltimore because of the federal government, Chicago slightly above San Francisco and Silicon Valley as people don't really have brand awareness of the Bay Area as a whole but it's not too uncommon for people to know San Francisco, and to a lesser extent, Silicon Valley

- Immigration: Pretty sure when it comes to raw numbers it's the Bay Area, Chicago, and then DC/Baltimore but I might be wrong. The Bay Area also has a smaller total population than the other two areas meaning it has a larger percentage as well

- Politics: DC/Baltimore by a large margin, Chicago, then the Bay Area

I hate when people group Baltimore and DC in the same category....but MAN DC is so underrated/looked over on this forum. It is such a fantastic city.

Yea, and I believe those are the numbers for a year's span of time rather than total number of immigrants at the moment. DC's picked up international migration a lot more in recent years.

The thing with DC that puts it over for me is the addition of being the home of the POTUS, the Capital of the US, Seat of US Government, its Agencies, Seat of Defense, CIA, NSA and FBI, Supreme Court, the Embassies, Associations, Monuments, and Memorials.

I haven't posted anything that isn't from the Census, so no.

Anyone who is challenging the Census as "wrong" is essentially trolling.

You guys out way to much stock in Washington being the fed capital. The Bay Area gets more foreign immigration and tourism for a reason. It's brand awareness is higher.

OP lists more than just brand 'awareness' to be criteria discussed:

- Size
- Importance
- Influence
- Power
- Global profile (brand awareness)
- Immigration
- Politics

SF wins in no more than two of them, maybe you're the one putting in too much stock.

Yeah thats a highly overrated reason. You never hear people talk up London, Paris or Tokyo because they are their respective national capitals...even if NYC were the nation's capital, we wouldnt really talk about it that much because there would still be much more to NYC than just that.

Pretty much.
