Maywood is a ghettoized 'burb, but still has most of its infrastructure intact. Add to it's proximity(although separated by a forest) to Oak Park and River Forest, its in a better position to improve. While Harvey is relatively close to Homewood/Flossmoor, the south burbs are not considered as desirable as the west burbs. Even as a ghetto 'burb, Maywood has several times as greater home values and had nearly twice the median income as Harvey in 2015.

On other other hand, Harvey saw a greater decline in population(and housing stock) and experienced very high levels of crime and gang infiltration that dates to the 70s, and maybe more dramatic white flight from 60s to 80s. All of these things played a part in how the suburb became what it is today. In Harvey, there are blocks or pockets that look just as worn down as areas in Englewood and Roseland.
The area between Loomis and Turlington St. from 151st-159th is very blighted and was a hotbed for gangs and drug activity just a few years ago.

There are more blocks that are half abandoned or very ghetto, but the Loomis--Lexington-Turlington area stands out because it's blocks after blocks of homes with broken in windows, vacant lots and abandonment.

Another one that was very crime-infested was Cornett Village, an apartment complex/neighborhood on the west fringes of Harvey, IL.

It has been virtually abandoned for more than a decade now, but it was practically equivalent to what Parkway Gardens on Chicago's southside is today when it was occupied during the 90s and early 2000s.

So yeah, Harvey looks worse than Maywood. On the good side, violent crime is down and property crime is way down compared to the 90s. I believe Maywood had more murders occurring than Harvey in recent years, despite the increase in poverty.

Greensboro continues to surge towards it's 2007 record body count of 40, as it recorded it's 31st murder over the weekend (rate 10.8 per 100,000). I have no clue how this year has become such a violent year there. Currently Greensboro is on pace to completely obliterate 2007, as it's current pace by year end is ~48-49 murders...

Just an aside, 49 murders would also be a slightly higher murder rate than 2007...

Fayetteville is now at 12/5.85...Charlotte is at 59/7.01...in Virginia, Richmond is up to 48/21.52; Newport News is at 13/7.1; Portsmouth is at 13/13.68. Richmond has more murders than Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News combined...

Fayetteville is way down from last year, when it recorded 32 murders. This year it's pace is for ~18-19, which was the decade average from 2010-2015...

Things have calmed down quite a bit in Des Moines with violence levels down with two homicides since the beginning of the summer.

Seems like the abnormal amounts of homicides and shootings during the Springtime was a spike and not so much a trend.

KCCI reports it as 22 homicides for the year. Not sure if that's a typo, or referring to the "suicide by cop" incident a couple of months ago.
