Oh my, Covington does not feel at all southern to me. Newport either. Further south the suburbs are generic but they could be anywhere east of the great plains.
I agree. They very much feel like being in Cincy. Great cities!
Too numerous to mention, Google Richmond and see for yourself, it's renaissance time in RVA, truly the Upper South, geographically and physically and mentally (despite tons of transplants). Transplants bring with them the influences and nuances of where they're from as well as going somewhat native when they come to Richmond, creating a very hybrid metro area. IMO Richmond and Louisville are the takers in this showdown.

That's the thing.. I had to Google Richmond. I've never been and haven't heard much about Richmond outside or a Historic Context. I checked the Boards on skyscrapercity.com, thrillist etc.. I didn't see much that would make it a clear winner if added to the poll. It's nice that things are going well in Richmond tho.
How does Nashville get more votes than Charlotte? Apart from country music, tourism, entertainment and a larger presence of creative class , Charlotte is at least 10 years ahead of Nashville in everything else.

Nashville also gets the nod for higher education and probably nightlife.
Nashville is just the more popular city right now with similar economic momentum as Charlotte but a bit more cultural cachet, so I suppose that explains it.

Because Nashville is Nashville and Charlotte is no Nashville.

That's not a self-explanatory statement. Nashville has only just arrived; let's not act as though there aren't a lot of people who still don't think of it as a honky tonk Baptist stronghold.
Lol, I still see it as the country music and or bluegrass mecca.
Bluegrass and country music are not the same. Nashville was never known as a bluegrass capital. Bluegrass is a part of Appalachian culture and mostly found in Eastern TN/KY areas.
