Their also not "technically" geographically southern. The midpoint of the east coast falls somewhere in central VA. The only thing Southern about the two is the census designation but by all means....

What does the bolded even mean? Are you stating that Richmond is somehow unique in being more aligned with the Northeast than its Southern peers? If so, please explain.

RVA is definitely Mid-Atlantic leaning than deep Southern (which is what the majority of the South is).

Richmond's economic interchange is with cities and states north of it. I shouldnt have said "completely", but it is definitely the majority...
I've been telling people on here for four or five years that Richmond is economically of the Northeast megaregion; those characteristics haven't lessened since. The problem here is because Richmond isn't a major city that gets constant burn on City-Data, people are less knowledgeable about the characteristics of the city and prefer to make inferences about it that don't match its reality...
