Let's shift it back to Ft. Lauderdale. https://www.redfin.com/FL/Fort-Laude.../home/42015612

Less than a million dollars, 2500 sq feet, looks close to the beach. I think you'd be hard pressed to find something similar in SD.

Yes, let’s bring back the 2 cities discussed. Heck, Jamul and El Cajon, practically Arizona, is much closer to downtown San Diego (less than 25 minutes, no traffic) and here is what you get for comparable prices to the townhome linked earlier. Hint: Lovely, what value—would be $1M+ in Santa Monica and why anyone would want to leave the state when they could live here is beyond me, but I wouldn’t live here either (even on an 80 degree Christmas Day when SoFla is reeling from blizzard conditions)

I mean... The unit looks nice and all, and sure it's big, but for that price, I would hope to not live in that type of building, and would expect a nicer neighborhood.

Doesn't look so nice when not looking through a realtor's photos.

Beaches: Ft Lauderdale - mainly due to clear and warmer water

Nightlife: Close, but I'll give this to Ft Lauderdale

Weather: San Diego. Doesn't really get much better anywhere in the world, year round

Cost of living: Ft Lauderdale is a bit less expensive

Culture: San Diego

I personally prefer San Diego. Much better city, bigger city, much more scenic due to the beautiful hills and mountains--and also in California, so politically miles ahead progressively than Florida, which is going much more conservatively. Which could be great for some, but not all.

Looks pretty close to the water though. This is a million, near the water in SD:

Advantage Ft. Lauderdale imo.

Some of those HOAs were 3000+ and they're condos. You're so far inland that you're getting Florida temps, albeit without the bugs and humidity. Again, easy advantage for Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, if you can handle the weather

Again, I’d choose neither though rednecks (aka “El Cajun”) and homeless vs bugs (a non factor where I live) and humidity would be closer to a toss up. On second thought, I’ll take the latter.

Not really sure rednecks is a nice term to throw around, but I'd assume Florida would have some? But what's the point of a 500K condo if the HOA is 3500.00? Again, I'll take Miami/Ft. Lauderdale COL all day.

500K, with a 3500.00 HOA to live in the desert? Nah, I'll take SoFla over Jamul all day.
