IMO,

Birmingham + Huntsville + Mobile + Montgomery + Tuscaloosa + Daphne/Fairhope > OKC + Tulsa

Alabama has 6 metros with over 200k people, and Oklahoma only has 2.

Alabama. It's where I chose to live and raise my family (I'm from Florida originally).

I've only been to Oklahoma once. I've never seen as many mullets (the hairstyle, not the fish) in my life as I did at the Cracker Barrel in OKC. And that was in the 2000s, not the 80s.

As would be expected for a state with nearly a million more people. But GDP per capital has Oklahoma ranked 31, while Alabama is only 45.

Hard to pinpoint. The pot holes on 65 are still there. Lots of trash. Buildings which needed tearing down when I worked in Hoover are still a hazard. It seemed like an ant hill! Traffic has always been bad on 280 but it seemed like NASCAR live - how can I get one car ahead by the next red light? People seem to run out of time while they are running. Birmingham was close to perfect for us - hunting, shooting, performing arts within easy access. Not to mention my oh so dear multitude of grocery stores Where did all the small shops go? Where did all the fast food and chains come from?
I still work for Birmingham now Hoover based company. Has anyone mentioned city taxes?

I'm so affected by scenery, I would have to choose Alabama. However, I do think Oklahoma is really cool with its transition from green mountains in the east to bona fide southwestern scenery on the other end of the state.

you said "Downtown is as ugly and uninviting as OKC's downtown."

nothing you wrote above mentions downtown.
