Which state is better to live in overall? Which is safer, has better drivers and nicer, smarter, open-minded people? Feel free to include any pros and cons as well as your likes/dislikes.

South Carolina doesn't belong with the rest of the group.

The other 3 states (NC, GA and TX) are fairly similar.

I'm in the NE Georgia Mountains right now in my RV. The place is absolutely beautiful with green, lush valleys and beautiful lakes.

Texas doesn't have any place like this. And to think the edge of Atlanta's just an hour and five minutes away.

North Carolina if going by the OP's criteria. The Durham-Chapel Hill and Raleigh-Cary metro areas in NC alone are the 4th and 13th most educated metro areas in the US, Asheville is 32nd. Outside of Austin at 9th, no Texas cities are in the Top 50 (same for GA with Atlanta at 27th and SC with only Charleston at 50th). NC is well known for friendliness overall and would say the driver friendliness is probably a wash between the four states.

I think it is difficult to generalize about entire states. Each state has tons of cities, towns, suburbs, and rural areas that will all feel different.

But since you asked. I would say North Carolina, followed very closely by Georgia. Those two have lower crime rates and higher educational attainment than Texas and SC. NC in particular is more purple which could be viewed as more open minded than a state that is less central politically.

I live in Raleigh which has a very educated population, is relatively safe for a metro of over a million people, and drivers here seem about average.

Interesting thread and I loved the reply by Kyle19125. I love all of these states for various reasons.
I love the NC mountains
I love the SC beaches
I love the ATL
I love Dallas and Houston and Austin, and the Texas Hill Country

The states are so similar in that they are southern states with a lot of transplants. Toss up for me...

I grew up in Georgia (Atlanta metro), and still have family there, and currently live in North Carolina (Triangle metro). They both share a lot in common, and differences, at least in the areas where I have lived, were not stark. Since I love living in N.C., and have no immediate plans to move back, I went with NC.

Yet SC has been in the top 10 numerical growth and percentage growth with the rest of the listed states. Somebody thinks so.

1. NC for me 2. SC, then 3. GA (Atlanta is not enough for me to choose the entire state, the cities/metropolitan areas outside of ATL just don’t match Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston nor the coast). I’ve lived in all 3 states by the way....Haven’t been to TX yet.
